New world translation

Genesis 38:27-30

27 Now it developed that in the time of her giving birth, why, here there were twins in her belly. 28 Further, it turned out that when she was giving birth one extended his hand, and the midwife at once took and tied a scarlet piece about his hand, saying: “This one came out first.” 29 Finally it developed that as soon as he drew back his hand, why, here his brother came out, so that she exclaimed: “What do you mean by this, that you have produced a perineal rupture for yourself?” Hence his name was called Pe′rez. 30 And afterward his brother upon whose hand the scarlet piece was came out and his name came to be called Ze′rah.

This is neat. There is twins in Tamar's belly. These are Judah's twins.
Zerah is the one whose hand came out first and a scarlet colored thread was put on his hand....then he withrew his hand in and traded places with perez. Perez came out....and caused the opening.

Zerah's hand came out first.
Perez actually opened up the way with his birth.
zerah was finally born.

Perez is the lineage of Jesus Christ.

Matthew's account speaks of BOTH twins in the lineage of Jesus in chapter one. gospel of Luke in chapter three does'nt.

I wonder what happened to zerah's line. Anyone know? I did some research online, and what i've found is that it's possible that a descandant of Zerah married a descandant of Perez so another child with roots of Judah was born. It may have been Pethahiah, which name means "Jehovah has opened the womb" Neh 11:24

Zerah means Jehovah has flashed forth, or shone forth. Other meanings show "rising, light, dawn".

Makarios
Makarios,

Yes, it does seem like a lot of intimate detail about the birth of those twins.

Is the detail just to entertain us or perhaps it means something more profound than just that immediate birth?

In Christ

abe
I have wondered the very same thing abe......

Was this written just by coindence, or was it for a purpose?

Perhaps somone on this site, has more knowledge about this subject, hopefully if so, they will step in and speak up.

I am VERY curious about this.

If i had to humbly guess, it makes me think of :

John the baptist.
Jesus Christ
The body of christ

OR

Fleshy Isreal
Jesus Christ
The body of Christ

But that's just me so i could be wrong here.

oh WOW! This just got very interesting! thank you for that site!

I really like that part, the role switching family, and the fact about THOMAS being a twin. It's interesting because I just mentioned that in one of my posts recently.

Thank you!

Makarios

Maybe Satan and Jesus were twins in the beginning.. Also like Jacob and Esau
Hi new truth!!!

I have wondered about that too at one time in my life, but I was reminded quickly of

(Col 1:15-17) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,

here we see that christ is the FIRSTBORN of ALL CREATION
all other things... in the HEAVENS and upon the EARTH
the things VISIBLE and the things INVISIBLE.....

"all things have been created THROUGH him and FOR him".

" all other things were made to exisit".....

So we see, Clearly Jehovah used his son to create all other things. Visible, and invisible, on earth and in heaven.

So that means, before anything... he existed with Jehovah.

And it also means, Among the many angels that jesus created in heaven--one of them eventually turned evil, and that's satan, and many followed him, forsaking their proper place.

Satan made himself that way.

So can children of God. They can turn evil...and follow the same pattern.

Hi Mak... Here's another way to look @ this scripture you quoted:

(Col 1:15-17) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,

The firstborn of all creation could mean instead:

That Jesus was the first begotten of holy spirit @ his baptism.. and being as the original Greek here is not past tense but present tense.. It could read that since his spirit begotten time.. all true creation from the spirit are thru him and for him... as though the things created before are not of "all things being made new".. from Rev. 21. But rather this could be talking about the new things for the new heavens and new earth.. that will be everlasting...

Colosians makes more sense to me, understood in this way.. What do you think?

In John 1:1... I think the Word that was in the beginning with God.. is the actual expression of God, backed by his holy spirit and not Jesus.. even though from 2,000 years ago until now.. he has become the word of God.. but I don't think he always was.. Thoughts???
