Do we save ourselves by obediently responding to God's call, and then doing good, and avoiding bad, to keep ourselves saved?
Or is it God that saves us, and keeps us saved?
Or is it a little of both?

1 Corinthians 9:27...
"...; but I pummel my body and lead it as a slave, that, after I have preached to others, I myself should not become disapproved somehow."
A scripture that comes to mind regarding your question.

Hello iknowhim...
if we could save ourselves from something we could do , why would we need Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour who died for us....otherwise he died for nothing.
Take Care

Does that scripture really speak to salvation? I don't think so, although I know that is how I used to think as a JW.
Salvation is paradoxical.
The Bible presents both the Heavenly, and earthly view of Salvation. that is salvation from man's POV and also from God's POV.
Paul is here expressing the human POV.

So true Sandi. You have come so far, so quickly.
We think we are standing so strong, and so true......and yet when our eyes are opened, we see that it is Jesus who is holding us in His arms, and keeping us safe from falling.
Less of me and more of Him.
Psalm 89:3
You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,
Psalm 105:6
O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
Psalm 105:26
He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
Matt 12:18
"Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
Mark 13:20
If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.
I beleive it is God who does the choosing. not us..
1 Timothy 4:16...
" Pay constant attention to yourself and to your teaching. Stay by these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and those who listen to you."
Jehovah provided the posibility of salvation thanks for the instrument of it...Jesus. No doubt, Jehovah sent his Son to give his life as a ransom for this world of humankind. (John 3:16)
Hi iknowhim,
What a blessing to have you here!
Your question reminds of John 6:44.
"No-one comes to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, ..."
I think anyone who finds favour in the eyes of the Father will always be drawn to Jesus, even if the person doesn´t really intend to be saved. The Apostle Paul is the best example.

Right,
It might be a shock to some but ...." Let me see how many Christians i can kill", is not a great "repentant attitude".
Basically Paul was on his way to kill Christians and God slapped him uspside his head and said "This is how it's going to be."
God is Sovereign.
