I'm doing a bit of research right now :read: and ran across this ... to me ... inconsistency ... :huh::thinking:
In our Bible the rendering of this Scripture is as follows ... Jude 16 ...
16 These men are murmurers, complainers about their lot in life, proceeding according to their own desires, and their mouths speak swelling things, while they are admiring personalities for the sake of [their own] benefit.
Now when I looked into my esword at various renderings of this verse ...
'their lot in life' is NOT mentioned ... :confused::shocked::huh:
All the other Bibles SO FAR anyway ... seem to keep it to murmurers, complainers (other variations of those words)
To me this leaves the way open to complain or murmur on many levels ... whereas in our Bible it NARROWS the meaning down ... and seems to go along with the general usage of our complaining whether or not we are 'servants' or 'elders' ... or that we shouldn't be concerned it we are not 'rich' and such ...
Now what I also found interesting is that in our OLD diaglott the English rendering of this verse is ...
These are Murmurers, Fault-finders, walking according to their own LUSTS; and their MOUTH speaks boastful words, admiring men's persons for the sake of Gain.
The English wording under the Greek words are as follows ...
these are murmurers, complainers, according to the lusts of themselves walking; and the mouth of them speaks swelling words, admiring faces, of gain account.
Then later in our newer one ... they CHANGED it to ...
16 These men are murmurers, complainers about their lot in life, proceeding according to their own desires, and their mouths speak swelling things, while they are admiring personalities for the sake of [their own] benefit.
The English wording under the Greek words are as follows ...
These are murmurers, complainers at fate, according to the desires of them going their way, and the mouth of them is speaking over-swelling (things), wondering at faces of benefit thanks.
So, here we see they added the expression ... AT FATE ... and changed 'lust' to 'desires' (close to the same meaning although lusts seems a more powerful word to me) 'admiring' to 'wondering' ... (which seems to me to NOT give a CLEAR rendering ...
Anyway, all you lovely scholars out there ... what say you ...?:confused::dontknow:
Is our Bible translation CORRECTLY rendering this verse ... especially the 'lot in life' part ... knowing will help me out in my research project ...:love::giverose:

Our old diaglott uses the author as having the name JUDAS ... where we use JUDE ...:dontknow:
Any thoughts ... I also know the old diaglott uses Apolcalypse instead of Revelation ... so it might be just an 'english' use of the name perhaps?
