Today's reading is from Ecclesasties and has a bit of a dark feel to it..
My tendency is to view it as a book of opposites and steped in reality and common sense--it is a book of wisdom that cuts to the chase :heartbeat: :rose:
There is a common destiny for us all :heartbeat: :rose:
''As I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him.'' Eccl. 9: (1) :rose:
''All share a common destiny--the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not.'' :rose:
''As it is with the good man, :rose:
so with the sinner;
as it is with those who take oaths,
so with those who are afraid to take them.'' (2) :rose:
''This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same
destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead.'' (3) ..(he must not have read that ''millions now living will never die.'' ;) _ :rose:
Disappointments are common to all... :rose:
''I have seen something else under the sun: :rose:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise :rose:
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.''
(11) :rose:
''Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come: :rose:
As fish are caught in a cruel net, :rose:
or birds are taken in a snare,
so men are trapped by evil times
that fall unexpectedly upon them.'' (12)
But--There are Many Benefits of Wisdom :heartbeat: :rose:
''The quiet words of the wise are more to be
heeded
than the shouts of a ruler of fools.'' (17) :rose:
''Wisdom is better than weapons of war,
but one sinner destroys much good.'' (18) :rose:
These are but a few highlights from Ecclesiastes and there is so much more that could be expounded upon...please feel free to add your own favorite gem :heartbeat: :rose:
my absolute favorite :heartbeat: :rose:
''Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter;
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.'' Eccl. 12: 13 ..always a
timely reminder :heartbeat: :rose:
have a wonderful day today friends--full of the wisdom of the ages :heartbeat: :rose:
