It will not be uprooted, neither will it be torn down anymore to time indefinite.”

Thanks e-magine,

I added it above.

It is interesting to think Moses must have understood that there would be some final days which were further off from his time.

I wonder what Jacob might have understood from what he told his 12 sons in Genesis Chapter 49.

Recently I have read the last book of Ezra (Esdras) in the Apocrypha.

His visions of the last days.

Very interesting!

Hi abe

Well, it certainly makes for some interesting reading, seeing all those scriptures together like that :ok:

I'm curious though... after having made such a collection, are you still so certain the phrase does not particularly apply to a period OTHER than the one we're living in today?

For example...

Ezekiel 7:2
“And as for you, O son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said to the soil of Israel, ‘An end, the end, has come upon the four extremities of the land."

This is written in present tense... clearly Jehovah was condemning the land of Israel to their 70 years of exile here.

Daniel 12:4
“And as for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of [the] end. Many will rove about, and the [true] knowledge will become abundant.”

I think what's interesting here is that the words are sealed up. (Those words were written in the 530's BC). Contrast this with Revelation (60's or 90's AD), where John is told "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, for the appointed time is near." (Rev 22:10)

What does this suggest to you about the period of the 1st century? Who do we know had the authority to unlock seals... anyone in particular?

1 Corinthians 10:11
Now these things went on befalling them as examples, and they were written for a warning to us upon whom the ends of the systems of things have arrived.

Don't you find this one interesting, abe? Paul is describing the time period he lived in as an arrival of "the ends of the system of things".

What? Could Paul be some kind of closet Preterist? :readthis:

1 Peter 1:20
True, he was foreknown before the founding of the world, but he was made manifest at the end of the times for the sake of YOU who through him are believers in God, the one who raised him up from the dead and gave him glory; so that YOUR faith and hope might be in God.

What? He WAS made manifest at "the end of the times"? Is Peter a closet Preterist as well?

1 Peter 4:7
But the end of all things has drawn close. Be sound in mind, therefore, and be vigilant with a view to prayers. 8 Above all things, have intense love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

What? The end had "drawn close", in Peter's day... the early 60's of the 1st century? Hmm. Whatever is Peter talking about? Didn't he knew the "end" wasn't scheduled for another 1,900+ years?

Jude 1:17-18
As for you, beloved ones, call to mind the sayings that have been previously spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, how they used to say to you: “In the last time there will be ridiculers, proceeding according to their own desires for ungodly things.”

What? So Jude was warning about what the apostles had already spoken about ("in the last time"), and it was already coming about, requiring Jude to remind them of the apostles prior warning?

To me, these scriptures show clearly that there were different "ends" from Jehovah's viewpoint throughout history.

The primary "end" I see Daniel, Jesus and the apostles referring to was the "conclusions of the system of things" that was upon the apostles and disciples of the 1st century, which culminated in the destruction of the Jewish religious system of worship between 66 and 73AD.

This is the "end" that concerned Daniel, Paul, Peter, Jude and Jesus himself... as their own words testify.

It boggles me that with so many scriptures listed, you still refuse to see this!

(Of course, there are a few that are clearly still future... such as 1 Corinthian 15:24... presumably that "end" is at the end of the 1,000 years though... and not at Armageddon.)
Interpretum,

It is really interesting to see end time scriptures all together.

Many old testament scriptures were written to talk about the end.

Then Jesus Christ came and he too talked about the end.

Then Jesus Christ died and the Apostles also started talking about the end.

The Apostle Paul mostly talked to Gentiles who were not even living in Jerusalem and maybe never went to Jerusalem about the end coming upon them.

Preterists think the end was when Jerusalem was destroyed and yet Gentiles all around the world are told about the end to come upon them, the Gentiles living far far away from Jerusalem.

Then the Apostle John living in Patmos wrote the Book of Revelation about the end coming upon them and was told to send the seven letters to Gentiles living in Asia!

He was not told to send the letter to Jews in Jerusalem!

The Jews in Jerusalem who according to preterists were the people who needed to be concerned about the end.

Oh well, I tried. :dontknow:

I'll keep trying to to the end.

Its a little of both, as I see it.
Hey abe

First off, please forgiving my sarcasm... I don't mean any offense, and I know you sincerely believe what you believe, which I respect, although I disagree with it.

Now on to what you said...

Jesus himself also said that the tribulation would come upon all those on the inhabited earth. This wasn't just about Jerusalem... as I have said before, the entire Roman empire suffered greatly during that time as well. I think you'd really enjoy reading Josephus' account of events during that period... during 66-69AD for example, the Roman empire suffered a civil war and near collapse... and whole cities went to war, with Jews slaughtering Gentiles, and vice versa.

The end of the Jewish system DID affect Gentiles around the "inhabited earth" (Luke 2:1) in a major way.

Quote:

Absolutely.

But the book of Revelation does cover the fall of Jerusalem... see chapters 7 through 11, and compare it with the writings of Josephus, and you may have your eyes opened.

Why do you think they contain "seven trumpets"?

Can you think of what seven trumpets are alluding to? Hint... Joshua brought it down.

The fall of Jericho was brought about by seven trumpets. This time, in Revelation, it was the fall of Jerusalem.

And then, once that's dealt with... it focuses on the primary concern of those Gentile readers of Revelation... namely, the "wild beast" that was ruling over them, of which emperor worship (as pictured by the beast demanding worship) was their primary concern - thousands of Christians losing their lives because of it.

Quote:
The Jews in Jerusalem who according to preterists were the people who needed to be concerned about the end.

Those in Jerusalem needed to "flee to the mountains"... heeding Jesus' advice (which you say was nothing to do with Jerusalem).

Those not in Jerusalem obviously didn't need to... but their fellow Christian's flight is still pictured in Revelation... in chapter 12! There we see a woman fleeing into the wilderness, while the dragon attempts to drown her.

Revelation, which I think was likely written around 67AD, was like a news report, telling Christians around the Roman empire of what was going on in Jerusalem and the surrounding regions, and what they (as Gentiles) would soon face at the hands of the Roman "wild beast" that would soon demand their worship.

Revelation is not rocket science. It is NOT sealed, and its fulfillment was "near" to its audience.

Unfortunately, modern audiences who fail to see it in its 1st century context have effectively "sealed it up" (contrary to Jesus' words), requiring special channeled "mouthpieces" or prophets to unseal it again (with their own private interpretations).

As I maintain, while I admit that some of my viewpoints on the more obscure parts of Revelation are speculative, I'm convinced the majority of Revelation interprets itself, when placed in the right context (i.e. seen from a 1st century viewpoint) and/or by viewing the angel's or Jesus' interpretation as the final word on the matter.

You are convinced that Revelation is being fulfilled right under your nose... but keep in mind, so was Russell... and a whole string of commentators before him.

Every generation has managed to find events that "fit" the words of Revelation.

Now, before you accuse me of being someone who is saying, "Where is this promised presence of his?"... no, that's not the point. My point is simply that Revelation was designed to be read with a 1st century perspective in mind.
