On a serious note - the New Madrid fault line extends from the Gulf of Mexico all the way into Canada.
One geologist's theory is that earthquakes all along that fault line actually originate from deep-seated seismic shifting in the Gulf. Interesting theory, with all the activity there right now, hmmm?

Willa,
Edgar Cayce predicted that an event would occur which would cause the Great Lakes to empty into the Gulf of Mexico through the Mississippi valley. Might have something to do with the fault line.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the
G-20/G-8 summits going on.
Nah, the epicenter was in Quebec and all the
FAT cats are in Toronto...LOL
agape,
James
Two people have been arrested so far in connection to explosives and the G20 summit.
Probably not a good idea to be in Toronto for the next couple of weeks.

And what did Nostradamus predict? (For those who are not informed, Edgar Cayce was a spirit medium)

Rez:thinking:
Rez,
Nostradamus predicted several different outcomes depending on what humanity chooses to do.
His worst case scenario is not very pleasant.
The Bible also does this:
Malachi 4
“Look! I am sending to YOU people E·li´jah the prophet before the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of Jehovah. 6 And he must turn the heart of fathers back toward sons, and the heart of sons back toward fathers; in order that I may not come and actually strike the earth with a devoting [of it] to destruction.â€
According to the Bible the worst case scenario is also not very pleasant.

Able, I'm sure you didn't miss Res's point - a spirit medium is in opposition to what God's word tells us about them. Have any of Nostradamus' or Cayce's predictions failed? I would rather trust solely in God's words than false prophets'. Just because they may prophesy some of the same things as the Bible, that doesn't ever mean we should give consideration to their words. Even Satan knows the Scriptures well!
Besides... for the Great Lakes to drain anywhere, they would have to be cut off from the St. Lawrence River and other rivers which feed into them, and those rivers are fed by the Arctic and Atlantic oceans... that seems like an uneducated hypothesis bent on sensationalism, imo.

Willa,
I agree that we should trust solely in God's word.
The Bible itself does indicate that people exist who are capable of predicting the future. The young girl in the Book of Acts who made money doing this comes to mind.
I am not afraid to examine all things as the Bible recommends this.
Cayce predicted that the Great Lakes would start to drain through the Mississippi instead of the St Lawrence.
The St Lawrence does not feed the Great Lakes, it presently drains them.
An enormous amount of water passes through the Great Lakes into the Atlantic Ocean.
If it does or does not prove to be true then it still won't change my convictions in God's word.
Yes, I did perceive that an underlying point existed in Rez's post however, I dutifully answered her question.

Thank you for the correction - that was my "uneducated hypothesis", lol. By and large, rivers in the northern hemisphere flow from north to south, or 'downhill' - though by pure hydro-force one may travel opposite to gravitational pull.
An interesting tidbit from Wiki - The source of the North River in the Mesabi Range in Minnesota (Seven Beaver Lake) is considered to be the source of the Saint Lawrence River. Because it crosses so many lakes, the water system frequently changes its name. From source to mouth, the names are:
North River
Saint Louis River
Lake Superior
Saint Marys River
Lake Huron
Saint Clair River
Lake Saint Clair
Detroit River
Lake Erie
Niagara River
Lake Ontario
Thousand Islands
Saint Lawrence Seaway
It then drains into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. I wonder why Lake Michigan isn't on the list? Maybe it's disconnected and lies more southerly... I dunno.
The Mississippi River is the largest river system in North America. About 2,320 miles long, the river originates at Lake Itasca, Minnesota and flows slowly southwards in sweeping meanders, terminating 95 river miles below New Orleans, Louisiana where it begins to flow to the Gulf of Mexico.
These 2 rivers don't intersect, but it doesn't take much to imagine what a major quake might do to relandscape the whole mid US terrain!
Very very interesting, isn't it? Thanks for making me look it up, Able!
:peace:
Willa,
Thanks for posting that info.
It is very interesting.
Here is some more statistics:
The average St. Lawrence River flow, recorded at Cornwall, Ontario, during the period 1900-95, is 6,910 cubic metres (244,000 cubic feet) per second.
Even with the very large flow of water the total volume discharged from the Great Lakes through the St Lawrence River in ONE YEAR represents less than 1% of the total volume of water in the Lakes.
If a fault line opened up the Great Lakes to flow into the Mississippi it really could be disastrous.
The Mississippi river discharges at an annual average rate of between 200 and 700 thousand cubic feet per second and so has a slightly larger volume of water discharging.
The Amazon River discharges about 10 times more than the Mississippi.
