Most Christian religions believe in the Rapture, or Heaven after death for the "good People" Jws and a few others believe in the Paradise Earth. most of us know that. Harold camping from family radio says he has the date when the Rapture is going to happen. I believe its may 2011. i think he bases it on its 7000 yrs since Noahs flood.
Does anyone have the total scoop on his prediction? it takes a lot of guts to say somthing like that. but he stands by it and suposidlly has the Scriptures to back it up. what do you think?

Hello justme! :hibye:

Here are a few verses to consider:

2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 (American Standard Version)

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him;
2 to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand

Notice here that Paul links the coming of Christ with our gathering to Him. Also the warning about those who claim to know the time.

Will we know that time?

Matthew 24:36 (American Standard Version)

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only.

What of those who claim to know?

Luke 21:8 (New International Version)

8He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them.

What are we to do then?

Matthew 24:42-44 (New International Version)

42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

John 14:21 (New International Version)

21Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

1 Corinthians 4:2 (King James Version)

2Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Jayme :welcome:
I heard about this Family Radio teaching myself just a couple of months ago. Apparently the date is calculated this way: Jesus Christ said that The End would be like in the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37 ). The date of Noah’s flood was on the 17th day of the 2nd month on the Jewish calendar (Genesis 7:10-11 ). According to this group, Noah was prophetically given a seven day warning before the flood was to begin (Genesis 7:4 ), and a day to God is like one thousand years (2 Peter 3:8 ). Therefore, they believe the event prophesied the end of the world occuring 7,000 years later. According to this group’s calculations, the flood happened in 4990 B.C.; add 7,000 years (minus one because there is no year “zero”), and you come up with the year of 2011 A.D. And, since, the 17th day of the 2nd month of the Jewish calendar falls on May 21st, they have declared that the great Rapture will occur on May 21st, 2011. AND…by further calculations and such based upon the Jewish feast days, they have also declared that October 21st, 2011 will be the actual end of the world.

So, should we all be looking forward to these grand events next year?

I don’t think so.

To begin with, I believe that the teaching of a believers’ Rapture is a little backwards because it is actually the wicked people who will be taken away while the true believers will be left behind (click here for details). I also believe that the Earth, as in the planet itself, will never be totally destroyed (click here for details). Aside from those two things, scripture also states that the End Time Antichrist must come to full power and reign for three and a half years before Christ comes (click here for details). During this time, the Mark of the Beast must be dispersed among the world’s people.

It is impossible for the Antichrist to rule for its required three and a half years and force people to take the Beast’s Mark before May 21st, 2011…or even before October 21st 2011.

And then, of course, there is the matter of terrible, supernatural events occurring at the return of Christ: The sun will be darkened, the moon will be turned to blood and the stars will fall out of the sky (Joel 2:31, Matthew 24:29-30, Acts 2:20, and Revelation 6:12). If nobody witnesses all of these events around the time of May 21st 2011, then we shouldn’t worry about this ministry’s teaching.

This is the very thing scripture warns true believers against: False prophets and false teachers misleading the Church (Matthew 24:11, 2 Peter 2:1-2).

I have to say, this particular teaching, and the way they go about figuring it out, feels a lot like the way the Jehovah's Witnesses calculate the 1914 thing.

Hi Justme, It has been predicted hundreds of times (wrongly) as you probably know everyone from Mr. Russell to Hal Lindsey. They all have one thing in common they were 100 percent wrong!

For some reason people ignore the plain simple words.

36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Just so you know most born again Christians believe there are no
" good people " only dreadful sinners saved by grace. Two people "Saved" and "Lost".

We also believe not only in the rapture but at the end of the tribulation period a return to reign with Christ here on Earth for 1000yrs followed by a New Heavens and and a New Earth in which all who belong to Christ will dwell with Him forever.

Here is a link to over 200 wrong predictions and counting!!!

Hello, 'justme'!
You know, though, that LOTS of people preach LOTS of things they try to convince others are supposedly backed up by the Scriptures... so we can't believe everything we read - in fact we can actually believe very little of it! :read: :readthis: A thorough reading of the Scriptures for ourselves, with God's Holy Spirit to guide us, is a valuable protection against false teachers.

Here's a link to an expose`(rather biased though it is) of Harold Camping's teachings, relating them quite closely with Jehovah's Witness teachings -http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Wolves/ha...amping.htm

We're cautioned to use discernment in judging between 'spirits' for very good reasons!
