As you may know, the Serbian Society is traditionally very close to the russians. Aboveall, the vast majority of Serbs are Orthodox christians as the russians.
If you've observed, in almost all european countries where orthdox christianity is the dominant religion ( for instance Russia, Georgia, Greece), Jehovah's witnesses aren't quite welcomed. So why this recognition by the serbs, while the witnesses are having a hard time in Russia?
This drama has nothing to do with the witnesses, Bang. It is all politics. The serbs are striving to become members of the European Union. They have to produce a neat record with respect to human rights and press and religious freedom. With recognizing the witnesses as a legal religion, they are just demonstrating how democratic Serbia is, ripe to be accepted as a member of the EU.
