Actually, that self-sufficiency doesn't sound bad at any time of Mankind's era, let alone the end. Just wish I were good at it.

I suppose, in a way, I'm a "the end is nigh"er - though I'm pretty sedate and don't wear a sandwich board or tell people to tremble.

I think we're on the home straight now - but I think we should see it as a transition to a fine future, and ignore the rhetoric from those unwashed phlegmatics with rolling eyes declaring doom. We know we'll be in safe hands. Anyway, perhaps the notion of tumultuous times as a precursor should tell us: its a change for the better.
