Since this is a topic that has been touched on, I thought I would bring up some points.
Names may or may not be of significance.
We know of the names of those that were changed in the Bible and obviously this was significant. On the otherhand there were so many women in Jesus' day called Mary, it is hard to figure out which one is which.
So we may sometimes attach to much significance to a name.
Knowing though that the name Eleazar is the same as Lazarus gives us insight into the multi layered parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus.
(See Willa's Posts on the subject) More about that later.
I thought I would bring up the prophetic nature of the book of Ruth, and the meanings of those names, I think this was on Watchmans site and was lost.
Setting: The Israelites have requested to have a king. Until that time Jehovah was their king. This request was made to Samuel. Samuel wrote the book of Ruth.
Story: Elimelech and Naomi are married. Eli-melech means 'my God is king'. Naomi means 'my delight'.
I suggest this is talking about Jehovah and the nation of Israel.
But then there are two sons Mahlon and Chilion. These are strange names to call your children, as they mean sickly and frailty.
There is a famine in the land of Bethlehem Ephrethah. Which is strange also because Bethlehem means house of bread and Ephrathah means good harvest. Perhaps it was a spiritual famine.
So this family move to the land of Mo-ab, the land of my father.
There Elimelech dies. My God is King is no more.
All rests now on the two sons and their wives Orpah and Ruth.
Orpah is thought to mean back of the neck and may mean stiff necked, Ruth means loyalty
Dear Vicky:love:
Didn't it all rest on Naomi? They ran to their mother in law didn't they?
Orpah went home to Moab.
So, are you saying that we can be abondoned by the living God and be left bitter? Or the dead of the living God was Jesus and our bitterness of being separated?
I really need to focus on some school, but couldn't resist replying on this thread. I like talking about relationships more than the Latin classes:friends:
With Many thoughts of missed words with you, Debbie
Well it all rested on Boaz which means "in strength".
Dear Vivky:love:,
Yes, Boaz made the call. later.
Naomi still took Ruth back to her people. Evn though she was "bitter" and said to call her Mara. I'm not looking at scriptures, I'm just using my noggin'
I found the part of Naomi wanting to be called "bitter" because she says the Almighty God made her bitter. That's some deep thinking about how we can feel bitter with God.
Even though she felt bitter, she went back to her people.
Ruth laying her skirt over Boaz and him keeping it there was a symbol of her accepting that they were to become husband and wife. No ring necessary.:drinking:
Interesting that Boaz took her and Jesus comes thorugh the lineage of a Moabite.
I've seen a movie where they make Ruth out to be a temple princess that offered human sacrifices. One of those movies scenes that kept me watching longer than I wanted. Have you seen any biblical evidence of her being involved with temple sacrifices? The movie irritated me.
Have a nice day, its your busy work time (weekend) right? So I pray you good rest/sleep:sleeping: when its time to rest.

Load of rubbish gets put in these films.
This whole book apart from being a nice story is prophetic.
Eli-melech "my god is king" is Jehovah who was rejected as the king of the 12 tribes of Israel which was Naomi. He died to them.
They Naomi, Orpah and Ruth looked to the sons for help. They represented the two lines of kings. Those of the northern tribes and the southern tribes. Both lines of kings ended, they died out.
The northern tribe, Orpah, did not remain faithful, but a remnant of the southern tribes did return to Jerusalem after the exile this was Ruth. The whole hope of the original nation (Naomi) now relied on the loyal ones.
Boaz a relative of Elimelech sees Ruth gleaning, working hard to support her mother-in-law. Boaz represents Jesus. He is the opposite of the weak and feeble kings. He is spiritually strong. He can repurchase all that is lost. Another word for repurchaser is redeemer.
Jesus is obviously a relative of Jehovah and can redeem all the loyal ones.
Ruth shows a willingness to be the bride of Boaz, just as the loyal ones are willing to be the bride of Christ.
Two harvests, barley and wheat take place before the marriage.
The offspring from Ruth/Boaz, (Christ and his bride) is called Ebed, "servant".
Naomi nurses this child.

Thanks Vicky! :giverose:
This is an absolute gem!
Jayme :drinking:
Thanks for that cogent synopsis! VICKY :cheekkiss:
Dear Vicky:love:,
Very neat! I don't know how your noggin gets there.
I appreciate it:hug: A very nice read after a conversation with my oldest staying with his Nana. It helped me have a deep emotion for Jehovah and Jesus before I started to rewind and get worry all excited (anyone have the rational formula for stopping worry, forget it, I won't understand it-anyways:D)
I look at it this way. If the written word can be played with deep, rich notes on our heart; then, I want whoever is in charge of this program!
I'm happy and thankful to have this in my day:hug:, Sis!
