Good Morning, Everyone! :hibye: Daily Scriptural Text for Wednesday, February 7, 2007:

5 No one is like [YHWH] our God, Who rules from heaven,

6 Who bends down to look at the skies and the earth.

7 [YHWH] lifts the poor from the dirt and takes the helpless from the ashes.

--Psalm 113:5-7, New Century Version.
(I included verse five to complete the thought.)

Complementary Scriptures:

20 And then [Jesus] added, "It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you."
--Mark 7:22, 23, New Living Translation. (I included verses twenty and twenty-one to complete the thought.)

A quotation from this morning's comments as found in Examining the Scriptures Daily:

"Some Bibles render Psalm 113:6 as saying that God Humbles Himself."

6 Who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth.
--New American Standard Bible.

6 Who humbles Himself to regard the heavens and the earth!--The Amplified Bible.

6 Who humbles Himself to behold
The things that are in the heavens and in the earth?
--New King James Version.

5 Who [is] as Jehovah our God,
He is exalting [Himself] to sit?
6 He is humbling [Himself] to look
On the heavens and on the earth.
--Verses five and six, Young's Literal Translation.

(Many, many more could be cited.)
__________

36 You protect me with Your saving shield.
You have stooped to make me great.
--2 Samuel 22:36, New Century Version.

My comment: This morning's Scriptural text raises a bit of an enigmatic question in my mind. Why did the NWT Translation Committee choose the word "condescending," -- rather than ... "humbles," ... "stoops," ... "bends down," ... or, ... "bends over," -- as all other English translations say? I could not find even one other translation that says, ... "condescending," ... or, anything remotely similar. Perhaps some of our Hebrew scholars can help us out here. The enigma (imo)  is the fact that this morning's comments, as found in Examining the Scriptures Daily, expend a good deal of effort to explain how that "humble" might be a better translation! Than that found in their own Bible.

My thought is that the word "condescending" puts the reader in a defensive, apologetic posture, as "Religion" is so often found attempting to do.

"Oh, I'm sorry, God. I didn't mean to disturb You. I didn't mean to make You 'condescend' to trouble Yourself with my concerns."

Rather than being an intimidating passage of Scripture, the one-hundred-thirteenth Psalm is a very tender, endearing, encouraging and hope-inspiring passage.

So, why would "Religion," -- any Religion, -- want to change one word and turn the entire thought upside down? That question is for each of us to ponder, and to answer for ourselves.

Just as a person might ... "bend down," ... "bend over," ... or, ... "stoop," ... to examine a delicate flower or some other tiny marvel of creation, ...

6 [YHWH, our God] stoops to look down [tenderly] on heaven and on earth.--New Living Translation.

Have A Wonderful Wednesday, Everybody! :giverose:

Much LOVE to ALL! isomam

Just wanted to let you know, Iso, and any others, that I did resurrect the "Persevere or Prayer" thread here, on the thread above.

Thanks, Iso, for all the research you did on today's text.  It really makes me mad that they changed that word.  It is so...so...like them!  Anything to make us feel more distanced from God!

Really, they're as bad as the RCC, saying we have to pray thru saints to get them to intercede with God on our behalf---only they have put themselves- living, breathing, imperfect men- in the place of the true saints- the holy ones, called by God himself to sit in heaven with Jesus Christ.  They refuse to believe that they have not yet been called.  They make me so MAD!:angry::angry:

This scripture is just one more in a long line of efforts to get between us and our loving father, Jehovah!:crybaby::angry::crybaby::angry::crybaby:

Our Father has the desire to bend down and take notice of us helpless ones.  How comforting to know that he cares so deeply about us that he will stoop down, to see where we are at.

Once again...men messing with the Bible:rant:

Greetings one and all, Jehovah's continued blessings to you all always:

My dear brother ISOMAM, once again you have succeded in bringing honor to Jehovah and His word, as well as highlighting the unmatchable love Jehovah has. While religion works overtime at making Jehovah God appear as a monster ready to crush and kill every living and breathing thing in sight, so that they can present themselves as mediators for us evil wicked sinners, Jehovah as you so aptly acknowledged is a God supreme in love. He does not need any defence from any man, religion or organization. His Son Jesus Christ met the challenge and defended Jehovah against such evil wicked men, and all be have to do is accept His Son and turn away from man made religious beliefs and stop following men.

As ususall my dear brother, well done.

May Jehovah continue to bless all you do for the wonderful brotherhood we share. Warm Christian love, brother Fred
Better late than never ...:giverose:

Lovely comments everyone ... :friends::thumbup:

I looked up in my esword ... and I too noted that the word 'condescend' wasn't among the words listed ...

Now ... in the effort to try to be 'fair' ...:siskiss: here is where the 'trickiness' comes in when it comes to 'words' and their 'meaning' ...

I decided to look up the word in my dictionary and here is what I found ...

Showing conscious courtesy toward inferiors;

Now THIS certainly would apply to our God ... being he is the CREATOR and the ALMIGHTY after all you would think wouldn't you ...;)

And indeed when you look up the word 'condescend' ... it has the meaning of ....

To come down voluntarily to equal terms with inferiors; be affable; to lower oneself (to dosomething), deign

So, if you look at these 'particular' meanings you might suppose that they could 'get away' with using this particular word ...

HOWEVER ...

What do WE THINK of when we hear the word CONDESCEND or CONSDESCENDING ...?

Is it not more of what these OTHER definitions refer to this word as meaning ...

Condescending ...

speaking of courtesy ... especially, making a DISPLAY of such courtesy; PATRONIZING

Condescend ...

To behave in a SUPERIOR or PATRONIZING manner

So, for the MAJORITY ... I would think that 'these' are the meanings that would come to mind to FIRST aren't they ... and they give us a very NEGATIVE feeling ... one of a 'lowly person' who is 'not worthy' of this 'higher ones' attention and courtesy toward us and we should be OH SO VERY GRATEFUL that they 'deigned' to look our way ... kind of like a 'snobbish' person looking 'down' on the 'lower classes' kind of thing ...

So ... for ME ... I too like the 'humbling' or 'bending down' brings across the EMOTION of what is occurring in these verses much better ...:happyheart:

It brings to mind this scenario ...

How does a child feel when an adult bends down on his haunches and speaks to them 'on their level' ...

They do not feel so overpowered or overwhelmed ... and whatever this adult says the child will feel 'take in' better and really feel as if this 'high' person ... this 'adult' ... REALLY CARES ... is REALLY INTERESTED ... and it cause a BOND ... a NURTURING that can come up and cause a CLOSENESS and a LOVE for one another ...

At least that is how I see it ...:giverose:

Jehovah is not ONLY our God ... he is our FATHER ... and a father who DEEPLY LOVES us ... and doesn't want to INTIMIDATE us or make us feel lower than we already are ...

While we could never be God's EQUAL ... we can certainly be a part of his FAMILY ... be a SON or DAUGHTER to him ...:grouphug::cheekkiss::heartbeat:

And, as a loving father, he wants to DO the very best for us ... and wants us to HAVE the very best ... and this future is what we WILL have very soon ...

So, THANK YOU my dearest God Jehovah ... for 'bending down' to us ... for allowing us to SEE the loving and kind and gracious God that you are!!:cheer::cheer:

Just some thoughts and feelings ...:giverose:

Luv as always ... great text ... BR :sheepy: :bouncyhearts:
