The head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.--1 Cor. 11:3 :rose:
This is one of those scriptures that has evoked great emotion over the years--and still does. It has been my experience that when using it formally most focus on the role of the woman being in subjection to her husband. That is only a part of the scripture and in its entirety it reads as this: :rose::rose::rose:
''But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ,
in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.'' I Cor. 11:3 :rose::rose::rose:
I found this verse from a translation I had never heard of before and thought I would include it --from The People's New Testament: :rose:
''But I would have you know---
The order of rank is the Christ is the center,
with the Father above and man below him; and in
the family the man is first and the woman second. That is nature's order.'' :rose::rose::rose:
What I liked about this translation is the description of Christ at the center of things--or the very heart of the family in this arrangement.
Too many times the thought of 'subjection' signals a thought of a bully or a tyrant and too many times that has happened when Christ is Not at the center of the family unit. I do not believe this 'subjection' means any kind of inferiority at all but that it means to be a part of the family arrangement that offers love, service, giving, forgiving, commitment and also cooperation. We know this because this arrangement is a beautiful and living example of how Christ felt about his church--he wasn't bossy and demanding therefore if a husband brings that kind of headship to his family then it is not of God. Some thoughts from scripture on the roles of the family--and the significance regarding Christ  :rose::rose::rose:
''Yield to each other because you respect Christ. :rose:
Wives, yield to your husbands, as you do to the Lord,
because the husband is the head of his wife, as Christ
is the head of the church. And he is the Savior of the
body, which is the church. Husbands, love your wives :rose:
as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it to
make it belong to God. Christ used the word to make
the church clean by washing it with water. He died so
that he could give the church to himself like a bride in
all her beauty. He died so that the church could be pure :rose:
and without fault, with no evil or sin or any other
wrong thing in it. In the same way, husbands should love
their wives as they love their own bodies. The man
who loves his wife loves himself. No one ever hates his :rose:
own body, but feeds and takes care of it. And that is
what Christ does for the church, because we are
parts of his body. The Scripture says, ''So a man will
leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, :rose:
and the two will become one body.'' That secret is very
important--I am talking about Christ and the church.
But each one of you must love his wife as he loves
himself, and a wife must respect her husband.'' :rose:
Eph. 5:21-23, 25-33 ....:rose::rose::rose:
These verses describe a very special arrangement and a :rose:
very special love--a surpassing love that brings with it
great responsibility. As Christ provides for his church so husbands are to provide for their wives--spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Surely everyone in the family would blossom
under such tenderness and care...and it is a very important assignment also with the abililty to greatly affect them also... as 1 Peter 3:7 explains...:rose::rose::rose:
''In the same way, you husbands should live with your
wives in an understanding way, since they are weaker
than you. Show them respect, because God gives them
the same blessing he gives you--the grace that gives
true life. Do this so that nothing will stop your
prayers.'' :rose::rose::rose:
We are not on our own by any means--we have much help :heartbeat:
''And God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything--enough to give to every good work.'' 2 Cor. 9:8
''Praise the Lord who helps us every day.'' Psalms 68:19
This is my understanding of this verse and a few of my thoughts. I certainly appreciate any thoughts anyone else might have on this subject..... :heartbeat::rose:
