Full Version: Judge not

In America, it seems that "judge not" is frequently being abused and misused especially in Christian communities. It's because this country is so focused on popularity that they don't want stir up the phony peace. That's why they have so much lukewarm christianity rampant in this society. Jesus hates lukewarm faith but this country is ignoring many, many of Jesus' teachings and warnings because His teachings are being treated as judgemental. Actions speaks loud in everything that we do.

Matthew 7:1
"Judge not lest you be judged,"

Everyone seems eager to grab hold of this teaching, but forget that the Bible also teaches:

1 Corinthians 5:12
"After all, is it my business to judge outsiders? You are to judge those who are in the community, aren't you?"

The context of "Take the speck out of your brother's eye" is to make sure the judger is not doing what he is judging. Jesus didn't mean for it to be a tool to make people quiet who are trying to encourage God's people to follow His Teachings.

Quote:
There's a principle at 1 Corinthians 6:4-6: "Is it true that there is not one wise man among you that will be able to judge between his brothers, but brother goes to court with brother, and that before unbelievers?"

In another word, Paul is saying that it is perfectly ok to judge if you are convicted to do it. It is no one elses business.

thanks SW. I am using this excellent verse everywhere.:)

Are people not to have legally binding opinions about matters involving right and wrong?
Why is it that only certain behaviors seek exemption from critique?

1 Cor 6:3 "Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!"

Thanks freyd. You are right. We all have the right to protect what Jesus says and make it clear to the world.

Jesus says to teach the world what He has commanded us. And it has a flip side too. If He is misrepresented we should correct those in error.

John 5:22...

"For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son;..."

...
So Gogh, how does that square with responsibility to have an ordered society?

:( Freyd. I don't know what you had in mind when you quoted that. you discern whether the angel is from God or not. You will not sit and pass a judgement on an angel. The context of judgement that we ar e talking about is speaking for God.... condemning and claiming to know who is diafavourable to God. That is the most dangerous thing anyone could do for himself.

Jesus could read hearts and knew how to handle the pharisees. Not us. We have our own burdens to carry.

"You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me." John 8:15

14When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Before pronouncing eternal damnation we need to ask ourselves if we would be saved if measured by the same measure. Nobody dare to stone the woman when Christ said that the sinless could do that. Our Lord is pure. For Him an adultery/fornication at heart is equal to the act itself.

"'The Lord will judge His people.' It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Hebrews 10:30

"For by fire and by His sword, the Lord will judge all flesh;
And the slain of the Lord shall be many...." Isaiah 66:16

Is it stylish to say 'Judge not!' Far from it. Pronouncing eternal damnation to any kind or claiming someone is disfavourable to God could only bring curses. Judgement belongs to the son of God. Do not use his name in vain.

Most of you are good at finding the lope holes but I use gut feelings when it comes to discerning the Scriptures. I have got feeling that most people are abusing "judge not" for their own hypocritical practices to stop anyone from noticing it.

There are too many hypocritical pracices and man-made theologies in the Christian communities.

I will not cooperate with any this kind of nonsense.(duck)

Hi fryed

A couple of scriptures come to mind (or found...grin)

1Thessalonians 5:12...

"But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.
See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all".......
"abstain from every form of evil."

1Timothy 2:1...

"I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;
for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth."

Luke 20:23...

" But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,
Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's.
And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's."

John 15:17...

"These things I command you, that ye may love one another.
If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me."

Christian love,

That doesn't address my question.

Deborah,

Who is claiming eternal damnation????

Quote:

You are judging other country as evil when you are killing and destroying them. Even you are not in the military, yor are siding with them by fighting against people like me who are protesting against it.

I have a question Hitomi. You can ignore this or answer honestly.

1) Eternal judgement- Can you judge the type of entities/people that will be damned.
2) Can you look at a person and judge if he is loved by the father?

Iam not finding loopholes. Iam a sinner trying hard to progress with his grace. I have my burdens and I want to be in the kingdom of God. I want to be loved by Christ though I stink with all my sins. The last thing I want to do is saying who is favourable/disfavourable to God and be measured by that measure.

In Christ there are many spiritual gifts. You know how we know our calling? Something gives us tremendous peace when we do it for Christ. That's the gift. If it's a gift from God it should give the person a sense of peace. We all are part of Christ because we believe in him and accept him. Let's work on our gifts for His glory. Let's work together for his glory.

Romans 12
4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his[b]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Only Jesus has authority to judge who will inherit the kingdom of God or just perish.

"For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life". It is simply written.

Why do you ask such question??? This is insulting question Deborah, shame on you.

God loves everyone but not everyone loves the Father or Jesus or both.

:) Thanks. Thats all I needed to know.
