"Generally the CO stayed with somebody selected by the elders, generally one of the elders themselves. Any social gatherings he and his wife went to were invitation only. And only those who sing the song the elders wanted him to hear were invited. In the rare cases when one went to a more open gathering the CO and their wife had an elder or elder's wife hanging over their shoulder and any publisher who might say something other than what the elders wanted the CO to hear couldn't get a word in edgewise. Same at the meetings, including meetings for field service. Just how is a CO supposed to get an accurate read of how things are in the congregation off that? The answer is they cannot, period. Congregational records won't give a real picture of such things as discord, corrupt elders abusing their flock, etc. All the records can tell the CO is whether the productivity of the congregation is up or down. They can't tell the CO why. He has to take the elders' word for what the reason is. And they can, and do, make sure their word is all the CO has to go on." :read:
I remember many an Elder's Meeting with the CO and being chewed out over the congregation's low hours. Everything was about the door knocking work.

We were told to start doing our shepherding work with the brothers and sisters 'while we were going door to door' with them. You want to talk about a bad idea. You end up with someone bawling their eyes out over something personal in their life while your at someone's front door.

The local congregation here is very unhappy. The last time the CO was here a group of 5 sisters went out with the circuit overseers wife and she went to a door with one other. While they were gone the 4 remaining shared their problems and when she returned they were all crying--she was annoyed by that as they were out in field service and asked to be returned to the Kingdom Hall...(overload I think) ....
Obviously they're all weak.
It's a rare CO that's really in touch with reality. The oldest ones are the worst!
Any more news if they're going to eliminate the COs??
I once had a long, personal conversation, with an assembly hall overseer who obviously has great inter-action with CO's. He was not a happy camper. Told me about one CO who told him, "You think we make sacrifices? We don't. We have new cars, places to live, good clothes and money because the brothers give us money." :eat:
I have known maybe one or two C.O.'s and/or D.O.'s who were actually caring individuals and not just company men.

But I believe that these are few and far between.
