Surfrider Foundation is sponsoring thousands of Beach, Lakes, and Waterway cleanups this weekend throughout the world.
Literally 100,000's of TONS of debris will be picked up.
It has fallen to our generation to care for this precious jewel in the crown- Earth.
Won't you lend a hand.

what an awesome endeavor Designs :ok: ...I am always so happy when the groups get out here and clean what little litter there is on the side of the roads after the snowmelt--and that is teeny next to what you are talking about--I hope you enjoy your day and have tons and tons of support..and a very distinguished looking Moses I am sure, by the way... :friends:
In Minnesta they sent weekly crews from the jail workers to clean up the ditches, parks, trails and other area - so MN was increadible clean place - because all the local jail had these work release programs. . .
When I moved to SC - I was shocked over the garbage in the ditches, on the beaches, in the parks and everywhere! It was a huge problem. The State attempted to put together work release programs - but they always had problems with escapes - the guard's carried weapons - some would ride on horses, they also had them work the fields instead of the ditches - they also had them fixing the roads - etc; it would seem that the type of prisoner was 'different' than that in MN. . ?
Anyway, garbage is a serious issue, and obviously it is causing major damage. . .

We had a nice turn out today and made a hug haul. Amazing what shows up on the beach and estuary- car parts and tires, cig. butts, plastics of all sorts, fishing line, clothing (is somebody running around without them ).
Several groups supported our efforts- Thanks to Samsung, National Civic League, Costa Mesa Youth Team. It was great to see parents with their children pitching in. Very impressed by the number of teens who helped out.
As sage41 pointed out the problem is Huge. Check out info on the North and South Pacific Gyre and the Atlantic Gyres. These are areas in the oceans where currents meet and slow down. It creates a deposit for garbage. The N. Pacific Gyre garbage has grown in the past 10 years from the size of Rhode Island to the size of Texas!
I would like to hear your views on Christians and Environmentalism.
We never did much as JWs and the current Aug.1 Watchtower confirms this with an article on the environment and not one word on pitching in and helping out- Nada. I saw 4 Witness teens at a Taco Stand on my way home today who were out in Service. Wouldn't it be nice to have had them help out, what a fine example to the Community it could have been. But they were told this summer at the DC not to get involved in such efforts. Ok rant over.
Let us keep the gift God gave us- to be caretakers of this planet, close to our hearts.

hi, designs. :hibye: like you, i firmly believe we are to be good keepers of that which has been entrusted to us, this gem of a planet. since we can only do what we can do, i make it a point to leave every place i go at least as good as i found it; better, if possible.
as christians, how could it be otherwise? :grouphug:

Hi brother,
Glad to hear of your efforts. As I've rethought what it means to be a Christian in the past few years being an activist in social and environmental causes keeps coming back as an important means of carrying Christ's message in my community.
How can speaking of the New Earth mean anything if we sit by and do nothing now.
