PS : This story seems very fishy. I think that perhaps the granny belonged to some other religion and was wrongly assumed to be a JW by the prosecutors or press.
Bangalore,

I agree the story does not hold up. But I can see that the people quoted were relying on the womens viewpoint as to what happened. For example this statement.

Quote:
Then a woman carried a boy to the sitting room where she had everything prepared beforehand including candles and a brochure with "a prayer to enter paradise" given to her by Jehovah's Witnesses.

I would bet it was a brochure not with a scripted prayer but one about the paradise earth, and it used the lords prayer as an example of the paradise earth being part of the Kingdom prayed for by Jesus.

Also this comment:

Quote:
Neighbors told that on the eve of murdering her grandson she spoke about religion and soon apocalypses. Jehovah's witnesses convinced the woman the Lord would come on 2014 and raise the dead, then all the righteous will go to paradise and take their children with them.

Sounds like maybe she had spoken with witnesses, and they had discussed their concept of 1914 and people's lifespans. Then about the ressurection of the dead, and the survival of armageddon, and how the parents can save the lives of their family if they are faithful. I am of course speculating here, but in this women's contaminated mind she took the information and interpted it quite differently, and then acted on it's dark intent.

My heart is sad for the family, and prayers are for their peace.

With his love
Lynn

This is not unusual. I know some JW parents that knew their son was sucicidal, and actually let him go through with it believing that he will be assured a resurection. So sad.

Fear's a terrible thing. A young Indian girl - not deranged, quite normal - took her life recently over fears that the Hadron Collider at CERN would produce a black hole and swallow up the world.

telegraph e-newspaper - suicide through fear of Hadron Collider

At least that fear was through media speculation - vague possibilities of what CERN could produce - rather than fears of a mass slaughter at Christ's return. I think that such induced fear should be illegal somehow - it does so much harm. Can't we have confidence in our loving Father, rather than feel terrified?

Just about the most outrageous statement I have ever read. How can you with your eyes open state such an attrocity as "this is not UNUSUAL"?

Hi ForestDweller and welcome....

I think you have misread our Brother.....e-magine was only saying that this type of twisted thinking is, sadly, not unusual among the cult followers of the Watchtower Society, and related that he personally knew parents who made a twisted decision related to the story.

I find it kind of surprising though, since the Watchtower erroneously (and borderline blasphemously) teaches that God will not resurrect those who know the "truth" and take their own life. The real reason for that is because the pompous would-be christs of the FDS feel that if you are given the "way, truth, and life" and allowed the "privilege" of being counted among JW's, that you have no excuse not to be ecstatically happy all the time, with an uncontrollable smile pasted ear to ear during every moment of life as a Watchtower slave, because of being under the corporate umbrella of salvation unique to the Watchtower Society and belonging to it exclusively. Just like the Pharisees, these Gatekeepers do not go in themselves, and prevent everyone else from going in...

When you think about it, it's no different than what the Pope does....
