"Also, he measured its wall, one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to a man’s measure, at the same time an angel’s."

Any thoughts on how the 144 cubits could be by man's measure and an angel's at the same time?

Other translations that render it similarly:

"And he measured its wall, seventy-two yards, according to human measurements, which are also angelic measurements." NASB

"And he took the measure of its wall, one hundred and forty-four cubits, after the measure of a man, that is, of an angel." BBE

"Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel." NKJV

Translations and versions that render it differently to say that the angel who was measuring used human measurements:

"Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick (the angel used a standard human measure)." NLT

"He also measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits by human measurement, which the angel was using" NRSV

"He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick, by man's measurement, which the angel was using." NIV
Because the resplendent city, New Jerusalem is to be built from men, who become angelic creatures (a new creation). As long as they remain faithful to the end. Measuring something is a bit like testing it. Everyone who comprises New Jerusalem will have been thoroughly tested as humans and will become as angels.

At least I think that's what it's about.
Hmm.....Great question.

The only thing that came to mind was that angels are messangers from our father to us. Therefore, their measurements would perhaps be in the same language as ours. Also, I feel a brotherhood with angels, like once mankind is truely reconcilled to our father, we will be alot like angels in another dimension.

The picture in Revelation of the New Jeruselum, makes me picture a time where Mankind will have a link between heaven and earth. The spiritworld and our physical world. Perhaps we will be able to enjoy our angelic brothers more.

I think that New Jerusalem, is a city that will help combine heaven and earth, so that the measurements, when viewed from heaven or earth will appear the same.

:friends:

I believe the kingdom of God is a government that will rule on the earth, with the 144,000 being human, at least for the 1000 year reign.

So, I think the 144,000 will be both:

SONS OF MEN

AND SONS OF GOD...
Yes good question!

For me the city is a symbol for the body of righteous believers. So when I read this vs as an angels measurement. Well what can human men and angels have in common? One is flesh the other is a spirit, ha but can they not BOTH be spiritual?? Both can be lovers of Gods righteousness in theirs hearts, yes??
