If he does not listen to them, speak to the congregation. If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector.--Matt: 18:17.....:rose:
Matthew Chapter 18 :love::rose:
This chapter reads to me like listening in on a conversation. Jesus was counseling his apostles on many different things--important things such as::rose::rose:
Humility:...''In that hour the disciples came near to Jesus and said: ''Who really is greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?'' So, calling a young child to him, he set it in their midst and said: ''Truly I say to you, Unless you turn around and become as young children, you will by no means enter into the Kingdom of the Heavens. therefore, whoever will humble himself like this young child is the one that is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens.'' Matt. 18:1-4
The settling of problems such as in our text today:...:rose:
''Moreover, if your brother commits a sin, go lay bare his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen , take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established.'' Matt. 18: 15-16 ....:rose::rose:
Forgiveness:...Then Peter came up and said to him: ''Lord, how many times is my brother to sin against me and am I to forgive him? Up to seven times?'' Jesus said to him: ''I say to you, not Up to seven times, but, Up to seventy seven times.'' :rose::rose::rose:
these are all very important issues and this chapter does give extensive examples of that.....such as a lack of humility results in being shut out of the kingdom...settling faults or difficulties properly may very well mean gaining your brother or friend back to you--or lose him forever and the importance of forgiveness--as we forgive so shall we be forgiven for as the closing scripture says: :rose:
''In like manner my heavenly Father will also deal with you if you do not forgive each one his brother from YOUR hearts.'' Matt. 18:35.... :rose::rose:
I think of these disciples learning at the feet of Jesus Christ and how wonderful it must have been for them....and how blessed we are to have their words and experiences to learn and grow from......as usually happens I have come to deeply appreciate Matthew chapter 18.....:heartbeat: :rose:
