Safeguard your tongue against what is bad, and your lips against speaking deception.--Ps. 34:13

Watchtower comments: ''Safeguarding our tongue from what is bad means that we will avoid spreading harmful gossip. Instead, we will always strive to be upbuilding when we tallk to others and to be courageous and speak the truth. (Eph. 4:25, 29, 31: Jas. 5:16) We avoid things that God condemns such as sexual immorality, pornography, theft, and drug abuse. We also reject entertainment that features such disgusting things. (Eph. 5:10-12) Instead, we use our time to do what is good. (Ps. 34:14) The greatest good that we can do is to share regularly in the KIngdom-preaching and disciple making work, helping others to gain salvation. (Matt: 24:14; 28:19,20)
doing good also includes preparing for and attending Christian meetings, contributing to the worldwide work, caring for our Kingdom hall and helping disadvantaged Christians.'' w07 3/1 2:9,10

In looking this over I have discovered there are lots--lots and --lots :coffeeread: of scriptures throughout the entire Bible stressing the need to be mindful of our speech. It would seem our very spirituality and love of spiritual things is reflected not only in our words but also in our mind and heart--a few of these scriptures.....:heartbeat:

Ps. 141:3...Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips.

Prov. 13:3...The one who guards his mouth preserves his life. The one who opens his lips comes to ruin.

James 1:26...If anyone thinks himself to be a formal worshiper and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's formal worship is worthless.

and finally (my favorite :giverose:)

2 Timothy 2:24...But a slave of the Lord does not need to fight, but needs to be gentle toward all, qualified to teach, keeping himself restrained under evil. :grouphug: :heartbeat:
