Three States Subjected To "Martial Law Sweeps"

Local, state police and sheriff's office join feds for "terror" sweeps

"Federal law enforcement agencies co-opted sheriffs offices as well state and local police forces in three states last weekend for a vast round up operation that one sheriff's deputy has described as "martial law training".

Law-enforcement agencies in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas took part in what was described by local media as "an anti-crime and anti-terrorism initiative" involving officers from more than 50 federal, state and local agencies. Given the military style name "Operation Sudden Impact", the initiative saw officers from six counties rounding up fugitives, conducting traffic checkpoints, climbing on boats on the Mississippi River and doing other "crime-abatement" programs all under the label of "anti-terrorism".

WREG Memphis news channel 3 reported that the Sheriff's Department arrested 332 people, 142 of whom were fugitives, or "terrorists" as they now seem to be known. Hundreds of dollars were seized and drugs recovered, and 1,292 traffic violations were handed out to speeding terrorists and illegally parked terrorists.

The authorities even raided businesses and store owners, confiscating computers and paperwork in an effort to "track down possible terrorists before something big happens". The Sheriff's Department is determining if and when they plan another round-up. The operation, which involved police, deputies, the FBI, drug agents, gang units and even the coast guard, is just one example of how law enforcement at the state and local levels is being co-opted and centralized by the Department of Homeland Security via massive federal grants.

It also highlights how the distinction between crime and terrorism is becoming irrelevant.

An Infowars reader called in to the Alex Jones show yesterday to alert us to the story and explain that he had gleaned the information from a his friend, a sheriff's deputy in Memphis, who had described the operation as "training for martial law in America". Forget innocent until proven guilty, you are now a terrorist suspect until you are told otherwise. It is now the norm to consider everybody equally likely to be guilty of something than innocent. This is proactive policing, not preventative or reactive policing, and is widely indicative of a society that is NOT free. This form of proactive policing is a phenomena indicative of a once free state rapidly declining into a authoritarian police state. If there was a real terror threat in these states, it would surely make sense to for law enforcement agencies to target known trouble areas, and follow up on already existing leads. Instead we are seeing local police and the coast guard being recruited to randomly target anyone in any area as possible terrorists. Surely if there was a real terror threat, this activity would harm the effort to combat it.

Of course, such activity is clearly not related to a real and tangible terror threat, it is related to the ongoing effort to vastly increase the size and scope of the federal government and increase the power it has over American citizens. The information and intelligence from the operation will be collated and routed through federally funded state-run fusion centers, which are working in conjunction with the military arm of the DHS, NORTHCOM. Such information will soon include the DNA and other biometric information from every person arrested, which DHS head Michael Chertoff has declared is no longer your personal information.

We recently reported on the fact that after 9/11 the Justice Department advised the Bush administration that it was able to effectively suspend the Fourth Amendment where domestic counter terrorism operations are concerned.

In light of this, and given that the government has begun to class any crime as terrorism and set local and state police to work on "anti-terror" operations, it is clear that the protections provided by the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are under direct threat.

We have seen how new provisions will effectively nullify the U.S. constitution, and a recent spate of executive orders, in particular PDD 51, outline preparations for the implementation of open martial law in the event of a declared national emergency.

Centralized and federally coordinated law enforcement programs complement nationwide FEMA programs to train Pastors and other religious representatives to become secret police enforcers who teach their congregations to "obey the government" in preparation for the implementation of martial law, property and firearm seizures, mass vaccination programs and forced relocation. The effects of this particular program have already been witnessed."

Good! Fewer criminals, safer streets. Oh, BTW...how many innocents were arrested? How many detained? None? Oh. What are those fascists thinking?

It is irrelevant. It's a crime to terrorize people.

What? Again I have to ask, "How many innocents were arrested" in the sting?

How so? Criminals are criminals. They don't "do" a single crime in a single venue. After capture, they are typically charged with multiple offenses. If terrorism is a crime, terrorists are likely participating in more than one criminal venue.

What? By empowering local agencies and sharing intelligence with them? Hey...if you don't like the federal government as it is, vote them out.

No...terrorism is a crime and terrorists are likely guilty of multiple crimes. Does it matter which of those crimes is prosecuted first?

How long as Martial Law been Martial Law? In an emergency, would you prefer chaos? None of the executive orders nullifies anything. If you are not guilty of a crime, you have nothing to fear.

Where? When? How? By whom? Give me some proof. This guy is talking out his south mouth and promoting fear. It isn't a long walk from fear to terror. I'd say that if you have a warrant already issued for your arrest, you ought to worry if you drive into one of those checkpoints. If not, you'll get a wave and a "have a nice day, sir."

Be thankful your not driving through Mexico trying to figure out whether it's the local or state policia or federallies, or someone dressed like them that's pulling you over. Either way, if you don't donate, they no apppreciate, and therefore confiscate whatever pleases them. Be thankful for what rights you have, I say.

well I have had a bit of an unusual occurrence and about a year and a half ago I got a (new-er) Green Ford Explorer and I have been stopped in this vehicle now many times for a State Trooper to check it out--and by many I mean at least 6 times--I realize that they must be looking for a vehicle like mine and being on several borders between Maine and Canada who knows what is going on But I must say they are total gentlemen--check the front and back license plates and sometimes ask for my license and registration--never have I been asked for my insurance card--then they wish me a nice day and tell me to drive safely and off I go. I have never been treated with the least amount of suspicion even when they are giving my little green machine the evil eye--I do know there's a Ton of things going on around us we have no knowledge of as an old friend of mine works Border Patrol. They have really tough jobs to do--really tough.....

Could be, Freyd...could be. But now, you see, we have a real problem. While I understand that astrologers have powers to see what the average "Joe" cannot, it is the source of those powers - and how they are manipulated - that is my concern. At what point did Christians start checking in with astrologers as sources?

I'm as concerned as you are about man's seemingly natural digression away from God; but I don't see it as a black pope/masonic plot. I see it as a pseudo-natural "path of least resistance" in a Godless world. People are lazy, short-term thinkers who die in 70 years who are always looking for a "free lunch." If it looks similar from one generation to the next, I can understand why. Lazy people share many of the same characteristics regardless of when they lived; but the most deleterious common characteristic of the lazy is the propensity to blame someone (or something) else for the state of the world. I encounter people every day who've drunk the world's Kool-Aid. I expect that drinking the Kool-Aid is dangerous regardless of the shape of cup from which it is drunk.

The Washington Monument is an obelisk similar to, but taller than those found in Europe and Egypt. It is a monument to George Washington as a Revolutionary War hero and first US president. Completed in 1884, it is still the tallest free-standing masonry structure in the world at, interestingly, 555' 5.5".

I love this quote, to me it pretty much sums up the argument. The Patriot Act is henious and has stripped Americans of some of their constitutional rights. Once you start playing with the constitution the country starts going down the drain. I've seen it happen in the part of the world I come from and unfortunately, I am starting to see it happen here in the US.

You may think that no harm is done with these stepped-up anti terrorism efforts. Mingle with immigrants or those perceived as new immigrants (even if they are 3rd or 4th generation) and you most likely will think differently.

I have been singled out numerously in airports. Why? for my name and my skin color. I have been talked down to, mistreated but I am female so it wasn't as bad. A friend of mine was harrassed terribley while on her honeymoon. She wears a head scarf. She was separated from her husband and kept at the airport for 5 hours while being interrogated. Her husband had to make an oath and answer all sorts of embarrasing questions, as well as being bodily searched. Their crime, they looked and were from the Middle East. Now we are not talking hoodlums or scary looking people. They both are 24, CPAs.

Being singled out time and time again infront of people or being treated rudely infront of them by a figure of authority only cements prejudice in people's minds. If the cops/patrol/etc are doing it, then this person must be feared.

A college mate once threatened me because of where I come from.

The two times I was pulled over by cops, I was talked down to and treated rudely. One cop even threatened me. I had a lady at a restaurant once refuse to take my order.

I was once cussed at and threatened in a restaurant while everybody just stood by and did nothing. Why? Because the guy was calling me a Bin Laden and terrorist.

The Patriot Act only made things worse. It takes away due process, constitutional rights and legalizes racial/ethnic profiling.

I am sorry for your experiences, Lou. I truly am.

You have had individual experiences with individual people...and it is unfortunate that any of that should come from anyone in an "official" capacity. In my work I deal constantly with people of all nationalities, religious backgrounds and skin colors. I can tell you without hesitation, no employee of the United States government is trained to mistreat people. On the contrary, they are trained to accommodate law-abiding individuals without even a thought to the peripherals. I know. I train federal agents on professionalism in their treatment of others.

What I can say is that the war that the US is currently involved in is highly emotional, much the same way the citizens of the US were emotional after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Those who haven't educated themselves and haven't harnessed their emotions will see "enemies" everywhere. We are living in a time of almost unrestricted immigration...something Americans are unaccustomed to. During the same time, the US was attacked and 3000 of its citizens killed. Is the emotional response of the citizens appropriate? Not always. Is it to be expected? If you know anything about the independent nature of Americans, I wouldn't discount the possibility of retributive behavior - even if undeserved. We're humans who exist in relative freedom...but are not necessarily smart or appreciative of the freedoms that we enjoy.

It's a work in progress, Lou. The Patriot Act is in response to the war on terrorism. An asymmetrical war in a immigration-friendly country can't be conducted without some means of control. Nothing is going to be perfect until God's kingdom is the rule rather than the exception. There must be something good about living here...otherwise you wouldn't be here. Let me know if you have any bad experiences with security in airports or with federal agents in your travels. The only way change can be made is through official channels...and I'm as "official" as they come. Check your PMs.

On a slightly more amusing note, my ex husband who is part Greek, so dark haired, was travelling around Norway and discovered people refusing to serve him. At that time he also had a dark moustache. He realised that to the Norwegians he looked Middle Eastern, and they were prejudiced toward immigrants. The next time he went there to do business, he had shaved his moustache off.
