Hey people Smile

Here's a prophecy that may have been overlooked..

Acts 8:20-22
But Peter said to him: “May your silver perish with you, because you thought through money to get possession of the free gift of God.
You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not straight in the sight of God.
Repent, therefore, of this badness of yours, and supplicate Jehovah that, if possible, the device of your heart may be forgiven you; for I see you are a poisonous gall and a bond of unrighteousness.”
In answer Simon said: “YOU men, make supplication for me to Jehovah that none of the things YOU have said may come upon me.”

As we know this was the incident recorded in Acts where Peter condemned Simon Magus for trying to buy the power of the holy spirit, what I found interesting was the expression poisonous gall or gall of bitterness in the KJV.

Now the word rendered gall here is cholē which can be:
1) bile, gall
2) in the OT used of other bitter things
a) wormwood
b) possibly myrrh

Obviously we remember wormwood from Revelation
Revelation 8:10-12
And the third angel blew his trumpet.
And a great star burning as a lamp fell from heaven, and it fell upon a third of the rivers and upon the fountains of waters.
And the name of the star is called Wormwood.
And a third of the waters turned into wormwood, and many of the men died from the waters, because these had been made bitter.

Here is another scripture that may also be referring to the same thing..

Job 20:1-29
Then Zophar the Naamathite replied:
My troubled thoughts prompt me to answer because I am greatly disturbed.

I hear a rebuke that dishonours me, and my understanding inspires me to reply.

Surely you know how it has been from of old, ever since man was placed on the earth, that the mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.

Though his pride reaches to the heavens and his head touches the clouds, he will perish for ever, like his own dung; those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'

Like a dream he flies away, no more to be found, banished like a vision of the night.

The eye that saw him will not see him again; his place will look on him no more.

His children must make amends to the poor; his own hands must give back his wealth.

The youthful vigour that fills his bones will lie with him in the dust.

Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue,
though he cannot bear to let it go and keeps it in his mouth,
yet his food will turn sour in his stomach; it will become the venom of serpents within him.

He will spit out the riches he swallowed; God will make his stomach vomit them up.

He will suck the poison of serpents; the fangs of an adder will kill him.

He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream.

What he toiled for he must give back uneaten; he will not enjoy the profit from his trading.

For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build.

Surely he will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.

Nothing is left for him to devour; his prosperity will not endure.

In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him.

When he has filled his belly, God will vent his burning anger against him and rain down his blows upon him.

Though he flees from an iron weapon, a bronze-tipped arrow pierces him.

He pulls it out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver.

Terrors will come over him; total darkness lies in wait for his treasures.

A fire unfanned will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.

The heavens will expose his guilt; the earth will rise up against him.

A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God's wrath.

Such is the fate God allots the wicked, the heritage appointed for them by God.

Could there be a prophetic connection between Simon Magus & the star wormwood? Thinking

Good job pulling up that article Johnny. It's so vital in understanding what happened to the Christian Congregation back in the first century, and that the Body of Christ and the Man of Lawlessness are spread throughout all of Christendom, and that the Temple of the True God cannot refer exclusively to the Watchtower. Just as I suspected ever since I was just a dumb kid (now I'm just a dumb adult).Big Grin

Hi there my wee brother and nevvie ... HibyeFriends

This could turn into a very interesting topic I am thinking ... Nicethread

I have been doing some reading Reading and thinking Huh ... and feel that there is much about this 'Wormwood' that may apply in various ways ...

When I read over the account in Acts it would appear that this Simon of Magus, who was known for a long time to be a practicer of magical arts was highly looked up to by people in the community of Samaria for the 'Power' he had and which they thought was from 'God' and so they would also listen to what he said. However, when Philip came along and preached about the good news of the kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, and performing many miracles, he was baptized by Philip along with many other Samaritans as well.

However, though he was 'baptized' he HEART obviously was not yet in the 'right place' ... he hadn't really 'seen the light of truth' or truly 'understood' the wonderful 'free gift' that God and Christ was giving the world. He was under the 'false illusion' that 'power could be bought', and so while his MIND may have 'heard' the message ... his 'heart' had yet to understand and rejoice in coming to know of the 'free gift of God' ... and that any 'works' granted to Jesus' followers to show they had God's backing was given because of the good heart of the person and the free gift and power of the holy spirit ... and that there was nothing MERCENARY in ANY way of the wonderful miracles that were performed in behalf of the name of Christ or his Father.

His heart needed to be cleansed and purified ... his motivations needed to readjusted and at Philip words telling him to repent we see that he did!!

This brought to mind something else that may also be a 'connector' to this 'wormwood' mentioned in the other scriptures you cited ...

Interestingly, Jeremiah also speaks about wormwood, and pretty close to what is referred to in Revelation ... and the heart condition of this man Simon Magus ... at least at first glance it seems to anyway ... Giverose

Jer. 9:13-16 ...

(ASV) 13 And Jehovah saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein,
14 but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baalim, which their fathers taught them;
15 therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
16 I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.

In the scripture in Revelation that you quoted doesn't this sound a tad familiar at this part ...?

And a third of the waters turned into wormwood, and many of the men died from the waters, because these had been made bitter.

Why was it that they were stubborn in their hearts, that they followed Baal or false gods instead of Jehovah ...?

Jer. 9:25,26 says why IMHO ...

25 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will punish all them that are circumcised in their uncircumcision:
26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners of their hair cut off, that dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.

Yes, the GODLY HEART Heartbeat of understanding, and discernment was MISSING from these ones, just as it was for Simon Magus ...Sad They only had a 'partial' love and understanding for truth and for wanting to serve God with their WHOLE heart, soul, mind, and strength ... they NEEDED to know that service to God is about GIVING FREELY with no thought of what you will get out of it for yourself ... that in order to receive freely one has to give freely!

In trying to think of an illustration of how God's message could turn 'bitter' to someone whose heart were not right toward God I thought of this ... not sure if it is really applicable but here goes anyway ... Love

Thinking of Simon Magus ... he heard the message of the good news and was attracted to it and the miracles because they 'tasted' so good, so much so that he became a believer and was baptized ...

The same could be said about a really good meal we eat and enjoy and gain much satisfaction and nutrition from ... Eat

However, for anyone who has indigestion, or a hernia or acid reflux or whatever ... what happens when the food we eats comes back up in our throats! ShockedShocked

Does it not BURN ... and that burning stays with us a long time no matter how many times we may swallow or how much we have to drink to try to wash the bad taste away ... for some it only goes away when medication is taken to deal with the problem ...

Well, if Simon hadn't taken his 'medication' ... his counsel from Peter ... his spiritual food would turn 'bad' in his mouth because he would have continued wanting it for the wrong purposes ... showing there was something 'wrong' with this 'spiritual stomach' and it was rejecting the good food ... causing it to come back up but instead of being the original pleasant thing it was ... now it was bitter and sour and burning ...Sad

Yes, just like the Israelites were a circumcised people in 'reality' or in the 'flesh' ... their HEART (the most important thing of all) is what they were NOT circumcised in ... just like Simon Magus' BODY (flesh) was baptized but his HEART had had to be really reached or 'circumcised' ...

Happily though, it seems he allowed God's spirit to do its work in him and repented ... which gives hope that others who may now not be fully serving God and Christ for the right can still change ... and may not have to taste that awful Wormwood taste Shockedin their mouths and bellies! Thumbsup

Not sure if I have helped out any ... but I did say I would try to write something my brother ... TongueWinkSiskissWhistle

Luv as always ... your sis and auntie BR Sheepy Bouncyhearts

Good connexion between Rev , Jeremiah and Job...

... why not also with Deutheronomy 32 ?

Quote:
32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom
and from the fields of Gomorrah.
Their grapes are filled with poison,
and their clusters with bitterness.

33 Their wine is the venom of serpents,
the deadly poison of cobras.

Here we see many "smallest letters" (as Jesus call them/Matt.5:18 ) that have great significance...and which have a fulfillment at Jesus coming..

Well , but what is their fulfillment order and cause ?

The Song of Moses is the key !
WHY ? ... see Rev. 15:3 ,
.....also Deut. 31:19,21 :

Quote:
19. "Now write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them.
21 .And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath."

The Song of Moses states the logical and chronological development of the events that will happen with and within God's people , the literal one/Israelites(in old times) and also the spiritual one/the spiritual Israelites at the "latter days" !
The actions revealed in the Song of Moses represent/show what will happen with this people in the time previous of the judgement , actions wich will end with the fulminant event of Christ coming at the Temple for to execute the God's judgement !

See here a text written by a messenger of God adressed to all God's children
(in this article the connexion is made ):

Quote:
"Even now", declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning!" (Joel 2:12)

According to Jesus' words, in the last times, "the abomination that causes desolation" had to settle in the "holy place". (Mat. 24:15) "The abomination" represents the idolatry traditions that were adopted by the covenant people of God. (Jer. 44:2-6) This way, they drew God's anger, as it is prophetically written in the book of Deutoronomy, 32: 16, 21, 22. There are two tools used for punishing we are talked about: "the fang of the wild beasts and the venom of vipers". (Deuteronomy 32:24)

COVENANT PEOPLE OF JEHOVAH!

For many years you have been defeated by the "beast". It had a fight with you and it overcame you, because it was meant to be this way, for the fulfillment of what was written (Rev. 11:7). Following the death of our beloved br. Rutherford, there was one man who became the leader of The Watch Tower Society (with the help of those who opposed this dear brother). He and his six intimates (a total of "seven heads") set up the things in order for you to be defeated and the truth thrown to the ground. By doing this they were selling you to the "sons of the Greeks". (Joel 3:6) How did they do this? By making the "error book", or, to be more specifically, The New World Translation (it should be called - of the old world). This translation brought severe misrepresentations to the biblical truth.

This textbook associates the star from Revelation 9:1 with the star from Numbers 24:17. In fact all the Bibles contain cross-references to the Wormwood star from Revelation 8:10,11, to Luke 10:18 and to the verse 11 from chapter 9. Verse 11 connects us to Ephesians 2:2, which shows us the "king of locusts" as the "lord of the forces of the air". According to New World Translation, this refers to Jesus. That's one of the most serious errors, because here it is symbolically about the leading group (wandering stars - see Jude 13) that was about to "filter in lethal heresies", "poisoned waters" and "wormwood" in the water of Truth. This star is falling down. We can't find anywhere in the Scripture that Jesus has fallen from Heavens (not literally, nor symbolically)!

By prophet Jeremiah, JEHOVAH said what He would feed you with if you disobey. (Jeremiah 9:15) About the state you would live in, Jehovah said by Isaiah: "but this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in pits or hidden away in prisons. They have become plunder, with no one to rescue them; they have been made loot, with no one to say ". (Isaiah 42:22).

If you have been dazzled by the "slave", be no more!

By prophet Isaiah, God asks: "which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come?". (Isaiah 42:23) And then, "who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers?". (Isaiah 42:24) We - the covenant people of God - ought to answer this way: "was it not the Lord, against who we had sinned?". (Isaiah 42:24)

Jehovah Himself gives a clear confirmation for this: "I will consign Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn". (Isaiah 43:28) In the 43rd chapter from Isaiah, Jehovah says "forget the former things: do not dwell on the past. See, I'm doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland". (verse 18,19) So, what desert is it written about? When Joel speaks about a "great and strong people" (ch. 2:2), he means "locusts", whose deeds are shown in verse 3: "before them the land is like the garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste - nothing escapes them". Who are these locusts? This is shown in different writings of the "slave", as it follows: The Watch Tower from the 1st of May 1992, pg. 11 § 10, 11; the book of Revelation, pg 143-147. If the actual religious organization of "Jehovah Witnesses" identifies itself with this people of "locusts", we can only conclude that they are those who oppress the covenant people, wasting their land (or their true adoration) and keeping them under oppression. (Jeremiah 50:33). Do you, estranged children of the Living God - Jehovah , recognize these things? Blessed are you, all who recognize and realize that Jehovah is speaking to you! Jehovah says: "See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you." (Isaiah 42:9) What for? (Mal. 3:6) What is going to happen (to spring into being)?

Let's follow Jehovah assertions! "...I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west." (Isaia 43:5) Where will they be bring and gathered? The word of God answers: "The ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion ...". (Isaiah 51:11) Reflect carefully to the following words of Jehovah : "See, I have taken out of your hand the cup that made you stagger; from that cup the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again". (Isaiah 51:22) This goblet is going to be put in the hand of your enemies.

JEHOVAH asks you: "Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, ?" (Isaiah 40:27) You'd better listen to JEHOVAH now: ", declares the Lord, ". (Jeremiah 4:1) Verse 3 from chapter 4 ends this way: "Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns". The Zion's state of despair is clearly shown by Isaiah's prophecy that says: "But Zion said, ". (Isaiah 49:14) Observe what JEHOVAH says: "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!". (Isaiah 49:15) Speaking about these things, JEHOVAH declares: "I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel." (Isaiah 46:13) (See Ezekiel ch. 36)

I exhort you: "Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God". (Isaiah 50:10)

These are the things given I want you ponder over, according to JEHOVAH 's order given prophet Jeremiah. This commandment, which I obey, is written in ch. 3:12: "Go, proclaim this message toward the north: ". Follow carefully the next verses to the end of the chapter and subscribe to the last part of the verse 22, saying: "Yes, we will come to you, for you are JEHOVAH , our God!" The inspired Jacob says: "As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about...". (Jacob 5:11) This is the end of God's people (the covenant people). "THE OUR HAS COME FOR YOU TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER...the night is nearly over; the day is almost here..." (Rom. 13:11, 12) "These are the things you have to do: Speak the TRUTH to each other." (Zechariah 8:16)

These are the things given I want you to ponder over, according to JEHOVAH 's order given to the prophet Jeremiah. This commandment, which I obey, is written in ch. 3:12: "Go, proclaim this message toward the north".

Carefully examine the next verses as the end of this chapter is reached and reslove in your heart to make the same proclaimation, saying: "Yes, we will come to you, for you are JEHOVAH , our God!"

Under inspiration Jacob says: "As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about...". (Jacob 5:11) The same outcome awaits God's people(the covenant people).

"THE HOUR HAS COME FOR YOU TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER...the night is nearly over; the day is almost here..." (Rom. 13:11, 12) "These are the things you have to do:

Speak the TRUTH to each other." (Zechariah 8:16)

Deuteronomy 32:32-33 is a good one too rus, how about:

Deuteronomy 29:18

Have you ever really looked into the eyes of J.F.Rutherford in pictures? He looks much like Aleister Crowley to me, through the eyes. It has always been said, the the eyes are the window to your soul.

I know this will sound strange to you all, but I have always been able to see if someone has a demon just by looking into the eyes. There is something way off about judge Rutherford, and I once even had a nightmare about him. He was punching me in the face over and over again.

OK I am going to try to be sensible, and add some things to this discussion.

Wormwood.
It is a plant that grows on uncultivated, arid ground and is called artemisia absinthium, Gr. ἀψίνθιον apsinthion. The secretions from its roots inhibit the growth of surrounding plants.
The plant was used to make the popular parisian drink called Absinthe.
Ones who were known to drink Absinthe were Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, and Aleister Crowley, they were all notorious "bad men" of the day who were devotees of the "Green Fairy, La Fée Verte". The spirit was green. It also is used to create the bitterness in Vermouth (from German, Wermut {wormwood}) and probably is included in many other European bitter drinks.

Pure wormwood oil is very poisonous, but with proper dosage poses little or no danger. Wormwood was used for killing intestinal worms, cleansing and was a febrifuge (temperature lowering)..... So although bitter, it had good medicinal properties for the digestive system.

So what does this mean? I think that wormwood was a bitter cleansing medecine that has been used down the ages. It kills the parasites and in very strong doses can kill humans. If our own digestive system is impaired, not producing enough gall it can be used as a boost.
So the bitterness Jehovah is sending will kill off parasites and render us cleansed, or dead.

The distillers of Absinthe, like Pernod Fils (Pernod and Son), eventually had to use their stills for making aniseed liqueur without the bitter addition.

Even today, though, when the French quaff their Pernod, (pastis) au jeune, they may say, "c'est pour tuer le ver". (It's to kill the worm).

Chernobyl in Ukrainian seems to mean wormwood.
Because of the controversial translation of "Chernobyl", some believe that the Chernobyl accident was foretold in the Bible.

It certainly poisoned the waters. And, even more so, it was amazing how quickly those Russians exhumed their Bibles.

...sure wouldn't want to be one of the surrounding plants....Sad

So Simon Magus tried to buy the power of the holy spirit from the apostles.
Now, in my mind this is the only time the bible reports someone buying or trying to buy the holy spirit, but just now I noticed something in my bible reading that stuck out. Detective

Matthew 25:6-10
"At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'
"Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'
" 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
"But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

Don't know if the buying of the oil in this parable is significant, but I find it curious..

Hi all. Smile

Just wondering if there's a connection with Revelation 8:10-11 & Mosses scattering the ash's of the golden calf onto the waters?

Exodus 32:19-20
When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.
And he took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it.

Deuteronomy 9:21
Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.
