Wondering why the JWs are celebrating the Memorial on March 22 and Bible Students on April 16, this yr?
I don't know the answer to that. But I think we should decide soon when we will be having our online memorial this year. I'm going to put up a thread in the top section where we can discuss our options.

PS.....the Passover is on April 20th....to complicate matters further.
I don't know either...but clearly, the full moon falls on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 1841 GMT. Passover begins at sunset April 19, 2008, the full moon on April 20 on the Jewish calendar. Of course, religion is so full of complicated date formulas, it could very well be in August.

I keep losing items that I have written, I don't know if it is my 'puter, the internet or something on the board. Anyway I have now resorted to posting in installments.

The equinoxes
At the times when the Sun is crossing the celestial equator,
day and night are of nearly equal length at all latitudes and so we call these dates the equinoxes. In March, as the Sun is moving northwards along the ecliptic, this is called the vernal/spring equinox and in September as the Sun is moving southwards we refer to it as the autumnal equinox. The equinoxes are also the points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and equator cross and the vernal/spring equinox is used as the zero point in measuring star co-ordinates.*
* The Jews used the equinox as their reset point for their calendar.

Why do the equinoxes not always occur on the same days each year?
The Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to go around the Sun. This is the reason we have a leap year every 4 years, to add another day to our calendar so that there is not a gradual drift of date through the seasons. For the same reason the precise time of the equinoxes are not the same each year, and generally will occur about 6 hours later each year, with a jump of a day (backwards) on leap years. The table below shows the dates and times of of both the vernal (spring) and autumnal equinoxes :

What I don't know is how all this appears to the Jews in Jerusalem.
Yes we now have the high tech. methods of calculating equinoxes and full moons, but what would they have done?
What is more I don't think it really matters because I think the memory of Christ would have been kept more than once a year.

Ever lost a loved one? We think about them almost daily though of course the date of their death is more poignant. That is what this is all about.
Remembering the death of our Lord and why he died.

[17:32:04] Justin Ant says: May want to pass on to the friends that are interested -- this year is a leap year, the Jewish calendar has an extra month. That is why the Passover (Nisan) is in April and not March like the JW's have it.
Why would the JWs get off track now after all these yrs of holding to the Jewish calendar for the date of the Memorial?
That puts them in the middle of a heathen sandwich. It may seem like a small thing, but so was the fruit in the garden of Eden.

Good Friday, March 21st.

Christs Memorial, March 22nd.

Easter Sunday , March 23rd.
Makes one wonder:confused::shocked:

Confusing isn't it
- and what about the Jews and proselytes who lived in different countries, who didn't visit Jerusalem for the Passover. Their observed calculation could have been out of line with Jerusalem's too, just like the WatchTower's is.

I agree with you Vicky, it's the rememberance that's important. A special covenant and a special soul who brought it.

Acts5v29

OK..and here's another thing that came up in yesterday's thinktank.

This is the first time that the WT memorial has landed on the day AFTER the full moon.....(or am I mistaken?)

March 20 -- first day of Spring (vernal equinox)
March 21 -- full moon
March 22 -- WT memorial

In the link to the thread below is an invitation, sorta like a poll, for members of the Paradise Cafe to express their views on when the online memorial should be held. This thread is also serving this purpose. Thanks!

The Bible Students observe the Memorial on April 18th after sundown as passover is the 19th that begins after sundown, on the 18th. As for the dubs, they are in deep spiritual darkness and getting darker. http://www.happypassover.net/passover-calendar.html

Hi freyd

Re: "Memorial on April 18th after sundown..."

Nisan 14 is in April. Christendom can do as they like.

"Scriptures do specifically mention the waving of the firstfruits in connection with the Passover ceremony. This tie-in is actually the only direct Scriptural basis for confirming the season of the year because the spring equinox is not referenced. To ignore the tie-in with the first grain harvest would seem to do violence to the original requirement, which becomes significant as a type of Christ’s resurrection on Nisan 16 in 33 A.D. Its omission might seem to seriously undermine the Scriptural support for the timing of the Passover celebration." http://www.heraldmag.org/2005/05ma_10.htm

Cand someone send in the recipe for making the bread? Also the kind of wine which could be used. A brother sent all the information in last year, but I have lost it. I believe Cabernet or Merlot and even a Chianti is OK?Could someone enlighten me on this please, as I will be doing it myself this year with my son. Thanks.
Christian love to all.

As for Easter......Definition of Easter Sunday Date
Easter Sunday is the Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon (PFM) date for the year. In June 325 A.D. astronomers approximated astronomical full moon dates for the Christian church, calling them Ecclesiastical Full Moon (EFM) dates. From 326 A.D. the PFM date has always been the EFM date after March 20 (which was the equinox date in 325 A.D.).http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/easter.htm
Dear friends

I need your help!

This year I am determined to celebrate the Lord's supper the way it ought to be done!
I'll get meself a red wine bottle and ask my mum to make some chapatis (unleavend wheat flat bread).

And I will just sit in my room open the Bible and read it and when the sun goes down I will eat bread and sip the wine in remembrance of Jesus. Right?

So question is whether the Passover is on the evening of Friday March 21 at sundown, or is it Saturday March 22 sundown? I kinda know it couldnt be Saturday evening its gotta be Friday sundown isnt it folks

Ah yes another thing, do we fast on the passover or after please let me know. Thanks
