Good early evening ...

Here is the text for today as written out by our dear woofette ...

''He that speaks of his own originality
is seeking his own glory.'' John 7:18...

''Loyal shepherds avoid seeking their own glory.
they base their counsel and encouragement not on their
own wisdom
, but on God's word. They appreciate that a shepherd's assignment is to help the sheep gain ''the mind of Christ'' not the mind of the elders. (I Cor.2:14-16) For example, what if an elder who was helping a couple deal with marital difficulties based his counsel on his own experience rather than on Bible principles and information published by the ''faithful and discreet slave''? Matt:24:45....His advice might be overly influenced by local customs and restricted by his limited knowledge. Granted, some customs are not bad in themselves, and the elder may have experience in life. But the sheep benefit most when shepherds encourage them to listen to Jesus voice and to the sayings of Jehovah rather than to men's thoughts or to the dictates of local customs....Ps. 12:6; Prov. 3:5,6 (w 5/1/06 13,14)

My comments on the text's comments ... :giverose:

What GOOD advice from God's Word NOT to speak of our own originality!

Some who 'gave a gift' let's say of speaking eloquently or even typing eloquently as would be the case here in this medium of communication would need to be oh so careful to base their thoughts and beliefs not in their own (my) reasonings ... but rather try to make them as solidly based on Scripture as we can ...:read:

If we do this then WHOSE glory are we then seeking ...?

Well as the remainder of the verse says ...

18 He that speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Yes, there is no unrighteousness in our heavenly Father ... and his sayings that we have are sayings of LIFE ... he taught these sayings to his Son ... who also taught them to men ... and it is THESE SAYINGS ... sayings not even of Christ's Jesus own originality ... that we would do well to instill deep within our hearts ...:heartbeat:

For even though we may have wisdom of experience ... Jehovah's wisdom far exceeds our own ...

It is kind of funny as well that in the text they speak of the importance of going to God's Word for counsel and advice ... and then encourages us to also seek out the 'wisdom' of the FDS ... 'men's advice' ... and yet in the same text tell us NOT to listen ... to men's thoughts or to the dictates of local customs ...

I find myself asking ... are not the FDS just men as well ... with their own thoughts and dictates and their own experiences and viewpoints the things that guide them to write what they write ... and are they not always changing some of those beliefs back and forth at times ... something that the knowledge and views and beliefs found in God's Word does not do ...?

So, are they not speaking in a circular kind of reasoning here when it comes to listening to THEM ... but not listening to an 'elder' (someone that they are ENTRUSTING THE CONGREGATION to ...) who may indeed have wise words of wisdom and insight based on THE BIBLE as well as PRACTICAL experience that can be based on BIBLE PRINCIPLES ...?

Anyway, these are just some thoughts and ramblings ... thanks for sending me the info wolfie dear ... for I do not want to take the credit for writing it out ...:P;):siskiss::whistle: woof you ...

And of course 'woof' or Luv to ya'll as well ... :grouphug:

BR :sheepy: :bouncyhearts:
and--I was thinking what Good advice this is--stick to the scriptural principles and not personal preferences--my dad used to say ''opinions are a dime a dozen'' altho sometimes I truly do want someone's opinion  but we know the difference. This reminded me of a brother in my old congregation who got a motorcycle and was hounded to death about it calling it a Bad Influence and Unspiritual--he sold it within a week  ... What I found interesting in the Organization's comments about not going outside of the Bible and the ''Faithful and Discreet Slave'' is all the info they write from sources they would just as soon You not visit or take to heart...hummm........

''But the wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable,
reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making
partial distinctions, not hypocritical.'' James 3:17 :giverose:
