Exciting Changes For The Watchtower!

Earlier this year, congregations received a thrilling announcement: Starting in January 2008, The Watchtower will have two different editions, one for the public and the other for our Christian brotherhood! Perhaps you have been wondering: ‘How will the two magazines be different? What are the advantages of having separate editions? Are there any new features to look forward to?’

The Differences: The issue dated the first of the month will be known as the Public Edition. All the articles in this issue will be prepared with the public in mind. The issue dated the 15th of the month will be known as the Study Edition and will not be offered in field service. It will contain all the study articles needed for one month as well as secondary articles that are of particular interest to dedicated Christians. The Public Edition of The Watchtower not only will appeal to Witnesses but will especially appeal to non-Witnesses who may accept the Bible. Awake!, on the other hand, will still be aimed at a broader audience, including skeptics and those who profess a non-Christian religion.

The Advantages: In the Study Edition, it will no longer be necessary to explain terms like “pioneer” in ways that non-Witnesses can grasp. This edition can also contain pointed information prepared especially for Jehovah’s Witnesses and Bible students who are making spiritual progress. What about the Public Edition? Since the subjects and the style of writing will be directed toward the public, a non-Witness should enjoy reading the magazine from cover to cover. Of course, every Witness of Jehovah will benefit from reading each issue. Because we will be offering just one Watchtower with one Awake! in the field ministry each month, we will have an entire month to develop effective presentations.

New Features: Some exciting new features are planned for the Public Edition of The Watchtower. One feature will discuss basic Scriptural teachings in a very simple format. Another will show how the Bible can help families. Bible study projects will be outlined for young people. Each issue will have an article highlighting specific Bible passages that teach us about Jehovah as a person.

We pray that Jehovah will bless this new arrangement for The Watchtower. May that journal, along with Awake!, reach many more deserving ones with the good news.–Matt. 10:11.

I'm just wondering what's their true motive for change?
What was their true motive for this change below? Was it not that time was running out for the governing body anointed members being replaced by those born after 1935?

Why the change now with the mags? If its not broken then dont fix it.
Is there some hidden motive behind this change? If the study article for the JWs has no pictures I'm sure you can work out why they had to change

I have to agree that the Society never does anything without a reason. They may paint a different picture on the reasoning, but the moves are well thought out.

I remember the change to the donations from having a set price. I wasn't serving but since I was assisting in literature I got to attend the Elder/Servant meeting when the change was announced. None of us in that room knew the real motive for the change.

Just thrilling isn't it. :cheer:

Since when did the tower start using old photos of Ray Franz?

That is Ray just below and to the right of CT Russell, isn't it? Sure as heck looks like him.

In the above Watchtower article the Governing Body said:

“(Anointed Witnesses - like the men of the Governing Body) do not believe that their being of the anointed give them special ‘insights,’ beyond what even some experienced members of the great crowd may have.”

1) Weren't we lead to believe that the men of the Governing Body do have "special insights" beyond anyone of "the great crowd"?

(2) I wonder if the real reason they say this is because most if not all the "food at the proper time" is now written by "members of the great crown" rather than any of the anointed Governing Body members.

It seems to be giving credit to these writers without letting the average Witnesses (anointed or not) realize that the spiritual food they are receiving is not coming from the anointed members of Governing Body. That realization might make them wonder where the anointed "faithful and discreet slave" fits in to such an arrangement.

Didn't Ray Franz explain that the way they get around this situation is that since the Governing Body has the final say as to what will be published, that therefore 'gives an anointed touch' to the spiritual food coming from "God's organization"?

a quote from another topic:

http://libertyunbound.com/archive/2003_1...truth.html

...a must read! At present it doesn't appear that the WTS is able to, or wants to, keep up with the fact finding ability of the Internet. last Sundays WT study is a case in point, where they proudly stated, in Par. 11, that dead "anointed ones" have been communicating "truths" to the GB all along! It seems that the dead aren't dead at all, like we were taught.
I think that the speed of the Internet will out pace the Soc. eventually, and it will fade into history. At least we can all say, "yes, and I was a part of it!"...........e-m"

Thanks e-m for the post (hope you don't it being pasting it here...grin.)

In the same sentence they can say they are the FDS and the only channel to God and also deny that they have any special insight!!! Inconceivable!!

I would say that and they can keep programming the laity while give the public the fluff.
