ArtCritic,

So sorry to hear about your heart troubles! I also have A-Fib. Ugh! I've been on medication for it for almost 11 years now (Toprol, Cardizem, and a daily aspirin). Been cardioverted twice (double Ugh!) I know what you mean about the scariness -- nothing like feeling your heart dancing around and your head starts to feel funny! :fever: I must avoid caffeine like the plague, and I can't use any cold or flu medicines.

There is a procedure called radio ablation that I'm looking into. I don't know if it's right for me yet or not, but I'm investigating it. You might want to look into it as well. The basic procedure is that they thread a catheter into your heart, find the errant cells that are disrupting the heartbeat, and burn them away by radio frequency. Sound horrible, I know, but it also sounds like it might be worthwhile.

I'll be praying for you Brother!

Love,
Tami:)

Hi Melancholymuse
I have thought about this for some time, radio ablation, and I think I will go for it.
Problem is they say my thyroid must settle down and that could take 12 months.
I appreciate your interest and I hate to say it its good to know we have something in common.

New research indicates Trans fats trigger of A-Fib

Hydrogenation oil is stored by the body and it just can’t get rid of it. This is because of its makeup. If any of you are trying to lose Weight then avoid these deadly fats. Look at what it does to your cholesterol

http://www.bantransfats.com/abouttransfat.html

The write up says “hydrogenation is an industrial process used to make a perfectly good oil, such as soybean oil, into a perfectly bad oil. The process is used to make an oil more solid; provide longer shelf-life in baked products; provide longer fry-life for cooking oils, and provide a certain kind of texture or "mouthfeel." The big problem is that partially hydrogenated oil is laden with lethal trans fat”

I hope you are well Melancholymuse
Brotherly love Joe

Ah, Trans Fats! Yes, the bane of all humankind. I learned about them recently myself. They clog your arteries and do all kinds of nasty things. I read my food labels now before buying -- never realized how many foods have trans fats in them. :( Ironically, butter is better for us than margarine because of the trans fats factor! And the only peanutbutter I can find without the stuff is the natural kind (Smucker's makes a decent product). Can't use shortening in my baking anymore. The stuff shows up everywhere: Ice cream, pies, cakes, snack chips, meat pies....eeesh! Fortunately though, there is a growing awareness of the dangers of trans fats here in the states, which means more and more companies are making products that don't have them. It's just a matter of reading the labels. ;)
hi Joe:hibye:

I am from Okinawa, and my mother lived to be 83 with poor food because of poverty. (She was active until last day of her life.) It seems less food is much healthyer than too much food. I read about Mexican people live quite long inspite of over weght problem. I think it is becaseu they eat a lot of beans.

I dont know much about nutirents but it seems eating a lot of fruits and vegetable helps a greate deal in overall health especailly beans. And please take a walk one hour daily even the weekends if you are not resticted by doctor.
