Renowned British scientist Sir Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics and astronomy, predicted the world would end in 2060 in a 1704 letter that went on show in Jerusalem on Sunday.

A famed rationalist, who secured a royal exemption from the ordination in the Church of England that was normally expected of academics of his day so he would not have to follow its teachings, Newton nonetheless based his prediction on a Biblical text.

Working from verses in the Book of Daniel, the elaborator of the classical laws of gravity, motion and optics argued that the world would end 1,260 years after the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire in western Europe in 800 AD.

The letter, on show at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University as part of an exhibition entitled “Newton’s Secrets”, is part of an array of papers of the British scientist bequeathed to the institution by a wealthy collector of scientific manuscripts.

The university said it was the first time the letter had been put on public show since 1969. Newton’s late 17th century work at Cambridge University was the foundation stone of modern science until the discovery of relativity and quantum mechanics in the last century.

But it has long been known that the ground-breaking physicist from Grantham, England, also took a keen interest in superstitions of his day that have long since fallen foul of modern science.

There ya go, 2060, and the Mayans predicted for 2012 before being wiped off the face of the planet. I suppose we'll see who's right, if either Tongue And though might argue that no one shall know the date or the time, a year is a pretty broad spectrum of a date. You've got a 1:365.25 chance of being right.
The WTS feels that Newton is part of the 144K. Will they ever stop making predictions? Confused

It is quite possible that Isaac Newton is part of the 144k, but I would bet that were he around today he would have NOTHING to do with the WTS!!

This is my favorite letter by Newton; 6100 words on 2 Kings 17:15, concerning idolatry, the Israelites, and "Christians" of his time.

"Now if it be Idolatry to worship the true God by an Image you may hence learn these two things first that Idolatry according to the old meaning of the word comprehends not only the worshipp given to an Idol ultimately but also that given through an Idol to the God to which the Idol is dedicated, that is not only worship. of an Idol but also worship by an Idol is Idolatry, Or that an image becomes an Idol so far as we worship either it or any thing by it. And secondly you may learn hence the great extent of the 2d Commandement ffor if it interdict the making of an image to God him self, much more must it to any thing els. So that comparing both these things I see not how any image worship can be excused. Lastly the excuse of some pleading they are Christians & terminate their worship on God, is hereby cut of. ffor if this would not excuse the Israelites who were Gods people & directed their worship ultimately to him as much as they do, how can it excuse them. Of the two they are the more guilty for they go a step futher out of the way, & double the crime by transmitting their worship first through images to the soules of dead men & then through the soules of dead men to God"

Newton didn't believe in the Trinity either, and none of his Theology was publshed during his lifetime (The Church of England wasn't known for its wonderful tolerance back then).

Id personaly have to read the letter to buy the press slant on it, although I know Newton scowered the scriptures his whole life in search of truth.

I have Newtons commentaries. He not only was a precise scientist, ahead of his time, but also a brilliant scholar. He denied the trinity, believed in the presence, and set a year for the end.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to Newton and other early Unitarians and Socinians. Newton's studies and hypotheses placed him in a position where the Protestants and Catholics didn't dare censur or persecute him. Servetus wasn't so fortunate in his correspondence with Calvin.

Also, I understand that he was allowed into Trinity College through a family friend who had influence with the university, because he would/could not accept the Trinity doctrine. I give him credit.
"But he confidently stated in the letter that the Bible proved the world would end in 2060, adding: "It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner."

Continuing in a decidedly sniffy tone, he wrote: "This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail.""

Steam says: I think what one accepts as the end of the world is a necessary part of the conclusion. For instance, read Revelation 11:15.
"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying; The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord (Jehovah) and his Christ. And he (Jehovah) shall reign for ever and ever."
This certainly could be the end of the world and it happened in 1874.

But in all thoughts on this world we must consider Satan who has run this present evil world with the aid of the fallen angels.

1 Thess. 4:16 - "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with (during) a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first."
The "shout" is the people demanding their rights as they did on the Jubilee in ancient Israel. It began immediately in 1874 when Jesus returned to earth. Labor and the Unions began their fight against capitalism. Thus the people began to rebel against satan's methods and kingdom. Soon the auto and the airplane were invented and life became far different than it had been for people. But Satan is fighting against this take over as best he can. To him it is still his world. It hasn't ended as yet.
Possibly when Jesus binds Satan that will be the end of this evil world. Probably in about 175 years Satan will be bound and no longer affects the human race.
Remember the first 360 years of the Millennium is the "Time of Trouble" and Jesus said it must be cut short of no flesh would be saved. (Matthew 24:22) So we expect the Time of Trouble to be cut short, we have to guess just when that will be.

2159AD is the end of the "Time of the End", that seems like a good place to stop the trouble. Bind satan and begin to lay out the kingdom of Christ. (1799 plius 360 = 2159AD)

Dear Steam,

Your kidding right?

Hey, I don't mind hashing this out sentence by sentence. One post, you say we are not in the New Covenent and on another you say we are around 150 years into it. WOW!!

And, Jesus who immediately healed and taught after given his power after baptism would waste @150+ years to watch us hash out life down here, like a poorly written action, adventure, drama, tragedy?

WOW!!
