(This is another essay that WAS on e-watchmans cafe but was accidently flushed down the loo.)
I hope that people dont think me strange for saying this but I feel strongly that I should say as this may be faith building .
A few nights ago I was praying to Jehovah and among other things I asked for wisdom and understanding in understanding the bible. That very night I had a dream about David and Goliath. In the dream I realised the meaning behind this biblical account. So here it goes :
David stands for Jesus Christ. Goliath stands for the the beast in Revelation .
Rev 22:16 "'I, Jesus, sent my angel to bear witness to YOU people of these things for the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright morning star.'"
(Proves that David and Jesus are viewed as the same in Revelation )
2 Sam. 21:20 And war arose yet again at Gath, when there happened to be a man of extraordinary size, with six fingers on each of his hands and six toes on each of his feet, twenty-four in number; and he too had been born to the Reph'aim.
(Goliath had six fingers)
Sam. 17:4 And a champion began to go out from the camps of the Phi?lis'tines, his name being Go?li'ath, from Gath, his height being six cubits and a span.
1 Sam. 17:5 And there was a helmet of copper on his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail, of overlapping scales, and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of copper.
1 Sa m.17:6 And there were greaves of copper above his feet and a javelin of copper between his shoulders.
1 Sam. 17:7 And the wooden shaft of his spear was like the beam of loom workers, and the blade of his spear was six hundred shekels of iron; and the bearer of the large shield was marching ahead of him.
(Goliath was 6 cubits high and his blade of his spear was six hundred shekels of iron in weight and he had 6 seperate pieces are amour )
Rev 13:17 and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name.
Rev 13:18 Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man's number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.
(Goliath like the image and the beast in Revealtion is associated with the 666 image and beast).
What this seems to show is the destruction by Christ of the wild beast and its image .
What I also find interesting is the fact that the number 666 doesn't just refer to the image of the wild beast but the wild beast itself as well . In fact the Image is what gets the people to write the mark on people but the Mark is for the wild beast itself. The mark also applies to the image because it is its image. So wild beast first and then image.
Goliath is an early indication of the wild beast itself and then later in the bible in Daniel 3:1 we see the image of the wild beast. This is in the same order in the bible as in Revealtion .
Dan 3:1 Nebuchadnez'zar the king made an image of gold, the height of which was sixty cubits [and] the breadth of which was six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Du'ra in the jurisdictional district of Babylon.
Interesting how the Nebuchadnez'zar image is a huge statue almost like an image of Goliath who was a giant .
Another indication that Goliath is an early symbolic example of the future wild beast is the fact that as proof that David was capable of killing Goliath he said that he had killed a bear and a lion in order to save sheep .
We are Christs sheep !
Compare:
1 Sam. 17:34 And David went on to say to Saul: "Your servant became a shepherd of his father among the flock, and there came a lion, and also a bear, and [each] carried off a sheep from the drove.
1 Sam. 17:35 And I went out after it and struck it down and made the rescue from its mouth. When it began rising against me, I grabbed hold of its beard and struck it down and put it to death.
1 Sam. 17:36 Both the lion and the bear your servant struck down; and this uncircumcised Phi?lis'tine must become like one of them, for he has taunted the battle lines of the living God."
1 Sam. 17:37 Then David added: "Jehovah, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, he it is who will deliver me from the hand of this Philis'tine." At this Saul said to David: "Go, and may Jehovah himself prove to be with you."
Rev. 13:2 Now the wild beast that I saw was like a leopard, but its feet were as those of a bear, and its mouth was as a lion's mouth. And the dragon gave to [the beast] its power and its throne and great authority.
One more peace of evidence that Jesus is David finishing off Goliath or the wild beast is the fact that before Goliath is killed he is standing up against Gods people and mocking Jehovah for 40 days .
1 Sam. 17:16 And the Philis'tine kept coming forward at early morning and at evening and taking his position for forty days.
Forty is the number of years of a generation and the number of days given as a warning for Jehovah to complete a judgement .
John 3:4 Finally Jo'nah started to enter into the city the walking distance of one day, and he kept proclaiming and saying: "Only forty days more, and Nin'eveh will be overthrown."
Gen 7:4 For in just seven days more I am making it rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe every existing thing that I have made off the surface of the ground."
Also forty is a number that seems to mean than Satan has power for a time as well as Jehovah or Christ in like a conclusion period.
Mark 1:13 So he continued in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan, and he was with the wild beasts, but the angels were ministering to him.
Act 1:3 To these also by many positive proofs he showed himself alive after he had suffered, being seen by them throughout forty days and telling the things about the kingdom of God.
I also find it interesting how David kills Goliath .
1Sa 17:49 Then David thrust his hand into his bag and took a stone from there and slung it, so that he struck the Philis'tine in his forehead and the stone sank into his forehead, and he went falling upon his face to the earth.
1 Sam. 17:50 So David, with a sling and a stone, proved stronger than the Philis'tine and struck the Philis'tine down and put him to death; and there was no sword in David's hand.
1 Sam. 17:51 And David continued running and got to stand over the Philis'tine. Then he took his sword and pulled it out of its sheath and definitely put him to death when he cut his head off with it. And the Philis'tines got to see that their mighty one had died, and they took to flight.
Compare this with the Genesis prophesy :
Gen 3:14 And Jehovah God proceeded to say to the serpent: "Because you have done this thing, you are the cursed one out of all the domestic animals and out of all the wild beasts of the field. Upon your belly you will go and dust is what you will eat all the days of your life.
Gen 3:15 And I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise you in the head and you will bruise him in the heel."
Goliath is bruised in the head but is not dead before he has a chance to eat dust as it were by falling head down onto the earth and then only after does David take his sword and kill him .
So this seems like more evidence that Goliath is symbolising the wild beast killed by Christ with the long sword of his mouth but at the same time not by power and in the case of David who didnt even have a sword but by spirit as in Jesus Christ .
Zec 4:6 Accordingly he answered and said to me: "This is the word of Jehovah to Zerub'babel, saying, '"Not by a military force, nor by power, but by my spirit," Jehovah of armies has said.
I hope that people dont think me strange for saying this but I feel strongly that I should say as this may be faith building .
