Recently I met up with an old friend and we went out to coffe together and he asked me if I still meditated. During the time I spent in the Pagan faith, I had meditated almost every night trying to find my center and think about my place in the world. Since leaving the dark faiths behind, I haven't meditated at all, and it's like this emptiness almost. I guess for me, it was almost my prayer. I don't want to slip back into the frame of mind I had at that time, but I can't seem to touch anything in prayer. I told him that and he said he was sad for me, and told me maybe I should meditate to pray to whatever new God I had found. Is there a problem with praying this way especially if its the method I've used under another faith? :read:
Hi Serafina,
I hope you are fine and all is well.:giverose: About meditation, I am sure others will give a more well-rounded and knowledgeable answer (more bible-supported too), but I thought to get the ball rolling.

I heard someone say or write once that if we elimnate everything that pagans do, there wouldn't be much to do left. Bonfires, wedding rings etc. I think the key lies in answering the following question: what am I associating with this act? How does it relate to me. Can I glorify God and serve Him or am I detracting from my true worship to him.

The definition of meditate is as follows: To reflect on; contemplate.
To plan in the mind; intend: To engage in devotional contemplation, especially prayer. To think or reflect, especially in a calm and deliberate manner.

However, we all know that many paganistic faiths practice it today and that many of the people that are not of the faith but meditate use experessions of the pagan faiths without knowing. For ex, the Om expression refers to a Hindu god.

So IMHO, revise what you have been doing when you meditate, take out all pagan influences and expressions, and then do it. Concentrate on Jehovah, contemplate his wonderful word and creation, calm your spirit, think of a scripture or a prayer that calms and comforts you.

I personally cannot sit in silence. I tried several time to do that but just can't sit still, so I do my own kind of meditation, I oust thoughts of my brain and work on intentionally relaxing my body and spirit. Then I think of scriptures and prayers that comfort me....seems to work!;):dontknow::redface:

transcendental meditation noun [U]
a method of calming the mind and becoming relaxed by silently repeating a special word or series of words many times

The Bible says:

Gen 24:63a And Isaac was out walking in order to meditate in the field at about the falling of evening.

Prov 15:28 The heart of the righteous one meditates so as to answer, but the mouth of the wicked ones bubbles forth with bad things.

Acts 4:24 Upon hearing this they with one accord raised their voices to God and said: “Sovereign Lord, you are the One who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them, 25 and who through holy spirit said by the mouth of our forefather David, your servant, ‘Why did nations become tumultuous and peoples meditate upon empty things?

I would say that meditation, by definition, is essential; but the thought that one must be "unfocused" or perform self-hypnosis (ie: transcendental meditation) can be dangerous. I believe that meditation "by giving your attention to only one thing" is highly beneficial if one has asked YHWH for holy spirit to guide his thoughts. Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to meditate as did Isaac, where there is some degree of solitude and distractions are minimized.
